I'm going over to New York for a few weeks over Christmas and I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to decide which bike to take with me.

Do I;

a. Take my Pompino which is in the process of being turned into a cross bike.

Pros - good on the roads, I could have some day long road/trail adventures (possibly good off road)

Cons - It'd be my first foray into CX type riding, drops, dodgy brakes ect, not sure if I'll get on with it. (Maybe put flat bars and V brakes on)

b. Take my singlespeed hardtail.

Pros - satisfying riding on some nice trails

Cons - limited when it comes to roads, due to gearing.

That all sounds a bit like the ramblings of a mad man, and I realise its really down to me, but any thoughts would be welcomed.

Cheers

I assume it's NY city so i'm guessing there's not too many trails so i'd take the pompino

It is NY city, there are actually some really nice trails. One in Manhattan, a couple in Queens and loads a short train ride up-state. If they weren't so easily accessible I'd defo just take the Pompino.

Since it's NYC I'd just rent a bike, plenty of places around and less hassle with luggage. Smart thing to do though might be to buy a bike over there, then sell it here on your return. Lots of nice bikes over there that would sell well when you get back. Steel Langster for $475?

I'd take that Specialized bike that looks like a NY taxi, then you could make some extra money on the side but you'll have to pretend not speak any English when you take people on your saddle.

midlifecrashes - That sounds like a good idea, to be honest I could buy a fair bit of stuff over there and sell on ebay on my return.

+1

In any case you are bound to get mugged on the train anyway, so might as well be a hire one they make off with. ๐Ÿ˜‰
