Riding these at the end f the week. By all accounts a hardtail is quite sufficient for Cannock, but what about Llandegla?
CX - anything else is overkill
STW mode off
Landegla is smooth with lots of jumps, pretty fast but not technical. Good fun but nothing that would warrant a long travel full sus, but you'd still have fun on one also.
For Llandegla I recommend a duvet & pillow.
Hardtail for both, no need for a full sus for either.
There's a downhill course at Cannock, there are miles and miles of beautiful off piste stuff and there are the built trails.
Some of the sections of all of these can be quite demanding (for a couple of seconds) and require a good 5" of technique (or equivalent).
I have a couple of mates who enjoy it equally on their Trek Remedys (Remedies?) and their hardtails. Me - I just blat around on a singlespeed Soul about 3 times a week.
I enjoy Llandegla on the same SSSoul too.
The Thing about the obvious llandegla comments, they are both unfunny and utterly predictable so why bother..?
Llandegla is great on whatever bike you have, the pump track and skills bit are nice for messing about on and the black run is a laugh and is quick.
Having just lugged a 35 lb 6" bike around llandegla, I would say, without reservation, take the hard tail.
As most people say there is no need for anything more than a 100mm hardtail at cannock, I rode my trek there for a year but now I ride a 140 pitch and the fun level has certainly rose.
Can't comment on LLandegla
have we all got to now have a bike for where we ride???? ๐
ah maybe thats where the equation X+1 works ๐
where X is the number of bikes you already own
dont forget what will do a lot will do a little
Hardtail for both is perfectly okay but I would not use it on the freeride track at Llandegla unless its that style of hardtail.
I'd go with whatever you feel best riding
Dont whatever you do ride a jones people will point and smirk!!!!
๐
Hardtail with RR and NN tubeless combo running @ 35 psi
What, ride one of those shopping bikes? They're only any good for fire roads ๐
Thanks for the feedback all. Looks like I'll be taking my hardtail. Ardents 2.4s @ 25psi
Did Cannock on Saturday on a HT, dry as a bone and twice as bumpy - short travel FS would be my choice.
What day you going Martin?
I might drop over and catch up with you.
Llandegla is smooth? Full of bloody braking bumps when I was there on Saturday!
But still, long travel, steel hardtail!

And don't forget your permit if you're going to Cannock. It's less for a hardtail, BTW.
Be very careful riding anything other than a fully rigid big wheeled Ti bike with daft bars - the brummie will find ya and convert ya!!
Honestly tho - more to do with tyre choice - any bike will do. Cannock is dusty dry at the moment.
If you ride Cannock and Llandegla on a hardtail you probably won't come away wishing you'd had full-sus.
If you ride Cannock and Llandegla on a full-sus you probably won't come away wishing you'd had a hardtail.
You don't "need" full-sus at either of these centres.
Some bits may be more fun with suspension.
Some bits may be more fun on a hardtail.
See what mood takes you on the morning you're heading out... then just go ride your bike & have fun.
The Wallabies on Cannock are more easily bunny hopped on a hardtail!
I've seen Cannock Monkey and Dog ridden on a rigid hybrid with slicks by a not-really-a-cyclist. ๐
After 2 laps of cannock the other day my body felt brutalised after all the braking bumps on a HT. The trail is in need of some serious TLC. A short travel FS would have been nicer.
lol at Keef!
BTW, how was the Gap mate?
Permits are half price at cannock if you ride a 29er

Thats your problem, right there.
Not been to Llandegla yet but I regularly ride Cannock and yes as others have said its fine on a short travel HT and I have ridden it on one. However I enjoy it more on an FS partially because I find FS riding more enjoyable and partially because you can go much faster over the rough stuff on an FS and there are a lot of braking bumps and roots at the chase.
Having never ridden either I would recommend taking me mam's shopper (folding of course).
You're all wrong.
1x9 Brompton Unicycle 29er is the way forward for maximum trailcentre enjoyment.
I'm clearly in awe of the radness of those that can slate either destination, because I think they're great. And every time I've ridden llandegla its put a smile on my miserable face.
Given the damage that winter & the weekend tyre skidders have inflicted, Cannock probably more comfy on a FS at the moment.
And every time I've ridden llandegla its put a smile on my miserable face.
Me too...but without the miserable face ๐
crackin JM,warmer than last wk !
Both are better on something with suspension at the front....Cannock will rattle yer fillings loose with the brake bumps on a rigid bike.....
last time i rode llandegla it was surprisingly cut up, esepcially the felled bits, definately nice having the fs bike in those bits
i hope they dont fix it up as i like my trails like i like my sex- rough and ready
What about a fat bike.? Can't rule that option out.
ride what ever bike makes you smile the most, for either venue it's all about fun rather than gnarrcore radness dude

Is that the 'clown discount' rate?
I heard from johnclimber that Fat bikes and Llandegla don't mix
