Haha! If you don’t have any joy, I’ve got a new 240s spec one (stainless bearings) that I’d swap for a Shimano one as long as it’s not ****ed.

In 1987 i hid my mum's contact lenses in a a vintage manual meat grinder and promptly forgot where I'd put them.
Couldn't find them for months.
She, as a single mum wasn't happy and had to pay for more. Check the manual meat grinder on the shelf.

Hosted Christmas at our house for the first time in 2016, both families over, my wife’s sisters have 5 kids between them so the house was busy. My wife is getting dressed, can’t find her watch- she’d seen the then 3-year old looking at it before. Could we find it?! Looked everywhere. She swore she’d not touched it... Took the whole Christmas to get her to admit where she’d hidden it!!

Based on that experience; look down the side of the chair cushion in the bedroom.

It'll be downstairs, she can't go upstairs without us due to a stairgate. I've come to the conclusion I've got to empty the wheelybin bag I put out earlier today. Rubber gloves time in the light!

Two thoughts.

1. Are you sure it's the toddler who's hidden it rather than you "put it somewhere you'll definitely remember" and then forgot it?
2. Leave something else unusual on the coffee table, hide and see where your little person hides that !

My son has a large bin wagon with "working" scoop and stuff. He once lost his soft toy after two hours of tears his and ours and essentially searching every room of a fairly zen house in increasing frustration I had a brain wave and found the toy in the toy ! It was almost an exact fit.
So any toys you can put things in ?

Have you actually tried any kind of 'persuasive questioning'?
Or even bribery? 'If you tell me where youv'e put it, I won't sell you', That kind of thing?

Actually, if the t was our house, it would have been "tidied" away by the wife. By tidied, she means shoved somewhere out of sight that she's since forgotten about because it wasn't significant to her, despite the fact it might very well have been for her bike.

This!
The amount of times I've had to get a rod with a load of tape on the end to poke inside and remove certain items.

I'm going to ask her today, commuting in a minute and won't see her till I get home. Trouble is she doesn't really talk, she's got a few words but most of her development compared to peers has been advanced physical not verbal.

I have literally turned the downstairs of our house inside out and it is no where.

It's funny that a number of people are saying about subwoofer, first place I looked was in the port of my floorstanders!

Thanks for all the suggestions. So far, no cigar!

Friends toddler posted all her credit cards through the gaps in the floorboards.

However, you've got bigger issues if you can fit a free hub through the gaps in your floorboards...

Shoes, it was always in my shoes. He thought it was great fun to hear me scream as another piece of lego embedded itself in the bottom of my foot. We once lost him after he crawled under the footrest of a reclining sofa and fell asleep right under the sofa. That was a frantic few minutes. 😯

Ah, "Hidey Tidying"! My wife's a dab hand at this as well.

"Has it been hidey-tidied?" Always use the passive voice to soften the accusatory tone.

In my experience, it's either in the bin, or chucked over the fence. My lad didn't like the place being untidy. We lost all our cutlery because every time he had a yoghurt, the spoon would go in the bin.

Make a game of it.

Google a picture of their favourite toy, get them to go and get it and give them a sweetie when they bring it to you.
Do this a few times with different toys or common household objects and then try it with the hub.

I wouldn't hold out much hope!

I grew up on a farm. When I was very young, like three or four, I took the weights off the weighing scales that my dad used for potatoes and buried them! The scales looked a bit like this:

[img] [/img]

Fifty years and more later they still haven't been found 😯 Just how deep can a four year old dig?

Dropped in the fish tank?
In her favorite bag with her favorite toys?

Sure your Mrs hasn't moved it? Mines always moving my stuff and denies touching it.

Down the back of the radiator? That’s where Funk Jt tends to hide stuff. Luckily I grew up with a much younger brother and sister and as soon as Mrs F got pregnant I invested in tall furniture. Anything I don’t want to lose goes high up 🙂

Our five year old still does this. She can list off a load of places she hid various bits but inevitably several go AWOL. Shoes and under furniture are her favourites. Our 17month old did hide the eldests favourite teddy in a pram and them pull the cover over it!

Op, you don't have a Victorian style open fireplace do you? Plenty of scope to post into the void behind the insertt.

Good news.

Sounds more like hidey tidying than a toddler cache.

Have you facilitated the blamestorming session yet?

Mistaken as a pepper/salt pot?

High or low cupboard?

My Mrs asked me a few weeks back where I had put one of the baby bottles, I hadn't.
I found it in the cupboard with all the crap that she had put away earlier in the day from cooking.

But I had obviously put it in there!

No it was a low cupboard, definitely toddler tidying. Wife is actually pretty good as I have a bike related draw and anything she hidy tidies goes in there.

I do like a happy ending.

I spend significant time looking for things which have been lost (by someone). They're almost always in the first place I look, about the third or fourth time I look there.
