I'm planning to convert my daughter's Deore triple to 1x10 using a ringmaster thick thin chainring. In my head, I'm thinking that it would be best to mount it where the middle ring goes, and put a bash ring that I've got kicking about on the outside to tidy things up. I'm thinking this will give the best chain line, and while she's never going to need a bash, will look neatest. Does this make sense and is it going to work?

Fitted mine last night to a 9 speed XTR M970 crank. Put it where middle ring would go. Quick up and down road and chainline looks fine. No problems pedalling backwards or with crunchy low speed shifts from high gears.

It looks wicked on its own. No need for bash.
