Does anybody know of any websites thatcater for road cycling? I'm after a secondhand road bike but other than ebay, I'm not too sure where to start looking. Cheers.

Bikeradar.com seem to have a fairly active classifieds section. A fair few STW users also advertise on there. You could of course always try on here!

How tall are you? I'm about to sell my Bianchi with full Campag record, it's been used five times.

I'd find out when you next cycle jumble is. You can either buy a secondhand bike, or build one up from the plethora of used or new bits you will find on offer. Frankly, eBay would be a good source too. Some road components can be bought brand new for a song.

Check out:

I'd rather build a bike. It's a lot of fun and if you consider powdercoating a frame costs as little as £30, you can produce something that looks brand new for not a lot of money.

thanks guys, will check all of the above out. I'm planning on spending around 300 quid for something steel framed, aluminium is too stiff for me liking. Hopefully find something old but nice!!

Steel is the better coice IMO. Much more springy and therefore more comfortable. Aluminium has to be oversized due to the more brittle nature of this alloy. Good steel frames are a rung up the ladder IMO.

If you are serious about doing some miles on the road and not just posing on a niche bike then go for an alu framed bike. Unless it's really good, a 'springy'steel frame translates into 'soggy' on the road, with no zip, no acceleration to outsprint traffic.

Despite the other thread running at the mo about potholed roads, I don't remember riding down any road in the UK thinking, "Ooooh, this frame is so stiff - I wish I had some give in the frame".

FWIW in my experience a steel frame has a certain life expectancy for stiffness. I used to do around 25,000 miles a year and would get through 3-4 steel frames a season. If a frame is properly designed then you won't notice it being uncomfortable, that will be down to having a badly set up position.

The Bianchi is an FG-Lite with a carbon rear seat stay, it's a 51cm frame, I'm 5' 8". It's got a full record groupset, ITM 101 carbon bars and stem and campag Zonda wheels. I've attached a picture (the wheels are different). I'm looking for £2500, it cost me £4750. It's the only FG-Lite frame in the UK so they are pretty rare.
