OK, I appreciate that my question sounds rather strange. Allow me to explain. I will be relocating to Zug in a few months and I'm on the lookout for apartments to rent. As a mountain biker, one key consideration for me is where to clean my bike after muddy rides. From what I gather, the Swiss are incredibly strict on the use of washing detergents outdoors. Moreover, I'm told that Swiss housing associations are very restrictive on what you can and can't do in the vicinity of your apartment. Can anyone shed any light on this?

At a railway station? No, that’s whales.

Somewhere over the the rainbow? No, pies...

I give in. Where do they wash them? In the woods? Behind the Pope?

This is a trick question, isn't it? I bet they can afford to pay someone else to.

Secret number 1 is that you don't need to use anything except water to wash your bike. True story. But if you don't have a space for a hose or bucket wash then divert to a petrol station and use the jet wash if they have them?

I've heard theres a perfectly reasonable and quick bike wash just at the end of the trails, you have to get there in decent time or you may face a lengthy queue mind 😉

Nice jokes and punnage... I don't want to ruin that with some facts:

My Swiss friends are very much normal people, factory/office workers. I'm sure their salary will be ok compared to UK average, but everything in Switzerland costs so much that they're disposable income is stw average I guess. They have an apartment in a block with underground car park. One of the bays is a dedicated washdown bay for cleaning outdoor gear. They say it's quite a common feature, more so on slightly older buildings. Because they wash the bikes fresh before they go in the lift to the apartment they probably don't need detergent, but I think I recall that we did use something like muck-off.
