Areches Beaufort with Trail Addiction. Really quite good indeed. 44 degrees in the sun, a mere 38 in the shade.

Nowhere special really. Friday was digging at a new jump spot, the most riding I did was ride across the fields to get there. Did 25 mile road ride on Saturday, few miles today. I can't ride properly at the minute as I've hurt my shoulder.

Had a cracking road ride early on today around the Test Valley. That climb out of Wherwell doesn't get any easier!

Oh, and it was stinking hot today! Luckily, a pool was on standby on my return! 🙂

100km around the Peak District. The last 10km with a tropical downpour - arrived home wetter than a haddock's bathing costume. At least it was warm rain.

I went out this afternoon on the mountain bike and did 37 miles 😀

Rode out from the house, up onto dartmoor, around Burrator reservoir and back again via some singletrack.

I've done the loop before, and the guy I rode it with told me it was 37/38 miles. I didn't believe him but I mapped it out when I got home and true enough! Pretty chuffed with that for an afternoon spin.

Bloody hot but a beautiful day to be out

Is there a better place to be than to be on a bike, in the British countryside on a day like today? No. There isn't. There really isn't.

Local loop - 48km of mixed road/dirt (about 2/3 road, but the RQ makes that a nice workout). Too hot by half, even in the morning 'cool'.

Rode off road over to the N Downs, rode around the trails then rode home via Ash and Tunnel Hill. Fantastic day, great company, 7hrs 85miles. More like this please! Today has been spent sitting in the sun reading Wiggins' autobiography and feeling humbled.

nowt so far this weekend..
I spent this afternoon clambering repeatedly over a large inflatable assault course.. much to the amusement of all the assembled water pistol toting kids..

tomorrow will be my riding day.. I haven't a plan yet although it will involve lots of riding over Dartmoor.. I may very well head off my usual trails in one direction or another and try for an exploratory epic..

I'm not surprised after typing all that out!

Not quite Whistler, but Saturday afternoon was spent on the DH trails near Bangor, Wales; Sunday was my first MBNW Wales forum-ride in the hills above Conwy and Penmaenmawr. Top fun had.

I got up early on Saturday morning to set off for the Trailbreak ride at Woodcote (Chilterns), went to say good-bye to Mrs O who on the spur of the moment decided to come with me. We decided to ride the the 65k route (I think me saying "It's what Jessica would do" at the sign-on tipped it!) and I was the happiest rider of the day to have her along with me.

The evening speed work we've been doing really paid off - we were so much quicker and had a great ride. The bit along by the Thames was fantastic. Really hot and suffering from the heat towards the end but she stormed on and we finished happy and knackered. Brilliant day.

We rode Saturday, which weatherwise was the right call. A quick loop round the back of Scout Moor, a lap of Cragg Quarry then a mad fast descent back to Rammy. We were going to do Lee Quarry too but it was bloody hot so we opted to sit outside the pub instead. Everything's a delicate balance 😀

Innerleithen cross country. Seemed a little rougher than last time I was there. And descending skills were a bit shit tbh. Still, climbed better than expected so can't complain.

Two very hot a sweaty racing laps of Blenheim Palace for the Brompton World Championships. The organisers were merciful and said that cos of the heat, jackets were optional. Not sure where I came yet but in my starting wave I spotted Michael Hutchinson last years winner. Thought if I could hang onto him, even just for a bit it would help propel me round. I think I lasted about 30 seconds max before he dropped me & shot off into the distance to win it again! He's bloody fast you know.

Abortive outing to Epping Forest.
Hot, too tired from hectic end of work week, rear derailleur unhappy, front brake AWOL.
And I don't know where the best trails are. Frustrating
Did an hour, drove home.
Still, always better than not leaving the house.
Yesterday I fettled the rear der. Today it's snicking up and down perfectly. All's well that ends etc etc

After a six week holiday of drinking and diving, I rode London to Brighton (103km) on the road bike in just under 5 and a half hours. The last hill was an absolute f*****r, especially on deep-section carbon wheels and a 38/26 smallest ratio.

Then spent a couple of hours digging up the front yard yesterday - don't want to skimp on the upper body training eh? 😉

Sat: out around Leigh Woods for 90mins with the six-year-old on a tag-a-long, quite a workout.

Sun: Took ten-year-old stepson out to do Forest of Dean blue, then red, then lunch. Popped over to Cwmcarn and did the Twrch loop in fantastic sunshine, finished just before 7pm. Yes, he struggled, but largely only where I did, and he managed all the downhill sections absolutely fine on his rigid Orange. Epic.

QE park to Brighton on the South Downs Way.
Very hot.
Harder than I remembered.
The girlfriend managed it, which as a non biker was good.
Cracking views, quite a few other riders out.
Lovely day..

Saturday morning, I did a loop of the Capcir: Col de la llose, col du creu, across to Formigueres, up the valley a bit, then down to les eglisiettes, into les Angles, up to pla del mir, then down to la Llagonne.

In summary, it was too bloody hot even at 2000m for such shenanigans, but well worth it.

We rode High Street and then a singletrack trail by Ullswater back to Hartsop. Had everykind of weather you can imagine in the space of 20 minutes but it ended up being nice for the most part.

High Street is a bog up there though, it's like riding in treacle!

Another Brompton Worlds attendee here 🙂

HOT HOT day. Reasonably happy with 36th overall - 13km in 23:24, but hope to tighten the seatpost properly next year so i don't get sag, and actually drinking some water in the hour before hand might have helped.

Sat
Went to Bedgebury for the first time and ponced about doing their XC race. Thoroughly enjoyed it though should have tried a bit harder.

Sun
Out at 4:35 to push off on the ESCA / VTTA 100 mile time trial. Great to be out for the dawn, and just two cars passed me in the first 11 miles.

Then ponced about East Sussex before grovelling home with hot foot problems

I did a local "mountain bike challenge" thing organised by the council, [url=

one. 30 miles and about 1400m of climbing, quite pleased that I managed to just about make the gold medal cut off time in spite of losing about 20 minutes taking a wrong turn, breaking my chain, and having a puncture on the last off road descent. It was pretty well organised and marshalled overall, although the signage was a bit patchy in places.

Apart from the mechanicals the only bad bit was getting past a convoy of mardy green-laners coming down one of the big off-road uphills. None of them looked like they were having fun at all, some of them had even brought their wives and kids along to sit in the back and look bored and grumpy too, very weird.

umm do I qualify on a canal boat?

Stourton to Tardebigge (for an overhaul before I get comments about the state of the boat): 4 tunnels, 29 locks in 14 hours and a wedding reception crashed in Brindley place

and quite bizarrely the amount of coconuts floating in the canal is daft.

A fair bit of stuff around Aberfoyle and Callander. Anyone familiar with the area (or Scottish singletrack in general) will be shocked to hear it was a mud fest.

Then we had a BBQ, it was ace.

I did the first half of the Hope mountain bike challenge route, 16.5miles round the hills around Hope. Its a great loop.

The full 28 miles course on sept 15th will be quite tough i think.
