As title... I'm looking around for a 26" coaster/roller-braked wheel from the UK, but not having much luck.

There are some on eBay from the States (with huge P&P charges), or the component parts easily available (which I could build myself, but I don't really have the time...), but would rather buy ready-built.

Any ideas?

These guys do them - and will also do a wheel-build:
Shimano Nexus 3 Speed IG Hub

I'm in Stirling and have a Sturmey Archer S2C back wheel (2-speed kickback hub with coaster brake)looking for a home if that's of interest?

Oh hi Crispin, you're SBC?

What size is the wheel?

Hi Crispin, I have the same S2C hub built into a a 26" rim for a custom lowrider project. The sprockets that I have and what I have found avalable are for a different chain type to easy to come by MTB type. Did you over come this or did you use funny shape chain ring?

I'm guessing you'll need a BMX/1 speed chain, or a wide 6/7 speed at the most?

BMX type would be more likely, thanks. I believe the pitch of a 6/7 speed is the same as say a 9 speed but wider. The sproket I have is for a longer pitch chain.
I got the wheel home, really excited thinking I had cracked the brakes and gears with zero cables, tidy bars look, only to find, 'bugger' chain don't fit.
BMX cranks next month then.

Interesting... I use a 1/8" KMC BMX chain on my singlespeed - with 3/32" single sprocket and Surly steel chainring with no problems; when geared I stick on a 3/32" (8 speed) chain. I've never found the pitch between links to ever be a problem...

Lee - I used to be SBC (chair for four years etc) but now unattached. Still ride with them occasionally though.

It's a 26" wheel, handbuilt by an ace local mechanic. I found it was tough on my ageing knees and so went to a freewheel coaster hub when I spotted a new one of these a couple of months later at £170.

Drop me an email if you want more info on the wheel (I'm thinking £40 but don't want the hassle of boxing and shipping it)

Jeff - I used a SRAM PC1 Singlespeed Chain.

OK, thanks guys. I need to dig wheel out of loft and frame out of shed and revisit I think.
