I want to buy and learn to ride an Ordinary Bicycle.
I've been searching the web for information, but not come up with anything useful.
Nothing ridable has turned up on ebay. I'm thinking more of a reproduction than a genuine fragile vintage bike as I want to actually ride it, probably on the fire roads in the Wyre Forest to start with.
I've followed links from the VCC and The Knutsford Great Race, but I can't find anyone in the UK currently selling, building or importing reproduction bikes.
I can't even find a forum on the subject. Searches for vintage bikes lead to links to US sites or discussions on mountain bikes from the 1980s.
Can anyone help ?

Now then. I asked this ages ago, but it must have been before the Great Crash. Someone referred me to an engineering firm in Switzerland that did them. There are a sufficiwent number around the place that someone [i]must[/i] be building them, but I wonder if the guys who worry about such things are on the web...

They are lovely pneumatic tyres, which you won't get on a replica.

Speak to Steve at Square Wheels, he bought one a few years ago from a guy who builds them (beautifully!) from scratch and sells at a very reasonable price considering the work that goes into it.01997421000
It's properly huge too, 58" wheel iirc.

That cycle museum is only about 60 miles away, so that will be a day out in the near future.
Those Hiwheelers are exactly what I am looking for. Anywhere between about £700 and £1600, which is about what I was expecting to pay, although I would imagine shipping for such an unusual size parcel would add quite a bit more.

The paths in the Wyre forest are probably not ideal for Ordinary riding, I don't recall much level ground... hills are hard work both up and down 😉
