After CRC/Wiggle there's still plenty of places for tyres but they all seem to have plenty of tyres i dont want.
I need some 29 sticky DHR2 in DH flavour for the Alps trip in summer so i was getting well ahead and looking to get them now. I had hoped to spot a bargain, but now I'm just hoping to find some. I know (hope) i can get the LBS to order some but leads me to ask the forum - where are you going for Maxxis these days?
Bikeinn have good prices, but my last order took 28 days to arrive.
Somebody was kind enough to fill my shed with enough tyres and spare parts to last me the rest of my life. It was weird, every time I woke up with a hangover, within a few days there would be some parcels from CRC full of bike parts.
Specialized tyres are good and cheap.
For Maxxis Assegai DD max grip i use LordGun in Italy
Even with shipping costs they still work out cheaper than buying the same tyres from the UK

Bannana industries and Bird have some deals on atm on certain tyres
See the bargains sticky thread... Bird have got some very cheap Maxxis tyres ATM. Merlin have some bargains too. Worth checking Banana Industries now, but thibk they've probably sold all their cheap ones. Ribble very occasionally sell off tyres cheap, but often have nowt.
You might not get your choice of compound or carcass unless you're willing to pay/get very lucky.
Merlin have Schwalbe DH tyres at decent prices right now.
Merlin is my go-to these days for drivetrain, brakes & tyres these days (and was already for the most part). You also get points which you can then convert into vouchers which is nice (although does bring you back to spend more money to use the voucher).
They normally have great prices on Michelin Wild Enduro's which I've moved to from Maxxis for the most part.
Depends on what I'm after but either Merlin or Biketart
I rate the Michelin Wild Enduros as well - I've got a tonne of them as every now and again Decathlon had them at 17€ a pop. Even at twice that they're great value. There's no way I'm paying 60-70€ for bike tyres!

I'm tight so tend to buy from Merlin when they have their tyres sales on...Magic Mary trail whatever for 22 quid instead of 76...

Not sure about specialized tyres - I’ve got mixed experiences.
Love the Hillbilly T7 I’ve got (not the new new version, but not the old gripton version either) - I’ve not ridden any other tyres that finds so much grip in the mud yet doesn’t get too squirelly on hardpack. Works as well on loose rocky stuff as in the mud - at the likes of Risca it seems to dig through any loose crap on corners even in the dry.
Used to like the specialized Slaughter I had - rolled fast and cornered ok. Obviously in mud it was crap but that’s not what it was for.
Tried a T9 Butcher that was reviewed fairly well and didn’t like it on the limit. Found it let go quickly rather than with warning. Went back to a DHF which I found more reliable - but found both the Assegai and the Kryptotal Fr are both better again.

DH22 would be great for the Alps. I’ve got a spare 29 one. Great in varied terrain like a more capable tougher Magic Mary. Hard to get.
Well i run DHR2 on front and rear all year round, can never be arsed with changing for each season. So I just want to stick with what i know and get them in DH super sticky for a week in Verbier in the summer. Bit of bike park but mostly the trails so I think they'll be brill.
The Conti's are definitely getting the big hype of the day but I'm not keen on paying £££ changing from what I know work. I tried an Assegai on the front last year and decided to they were too DH for me, saved them for the Alps as a spare.
Anyone ordered some Maxxis from Bird know if they are OE tyres (so white Maxxis logo) or aftermarket ones (so yellow Maxxis logo)
Tempted to buy a Dissector tyre for my Downcountry bike but my OCD will not allow me to have mis coloured Maxxis logos!
Bikeparts.co.uk have quite a lot of maxxis tyres. The one I purchased was a yellow logo one.
Maxxis have their own shop, I've bought a few when there's a sale. There was a sale recently, don't know whether it's still going or includes the tyres you're after!
As mentioned Merlin are alright.
TBH I don't buy DHR2 because they are hardly ever a reasonable price, same with the new Contis. I think a lot of people have simplified their tyre buying by just running DHR2 front and back, hence they can sell them all day long at the highest price.

Already looked on there and Bike parts are £22 dearer than Bird (thats with Bird charging for shipping and Bike parts having free shipping)
The reason i ask about the colour of the logo is because maybe Bird are selling off loads of OE white lettered Maxxis tyres from bike builds that havent happenend or have they got a large amount of aftermarket yellow Maxxis logo tyres cheap and are passing the saving on? i might have to take the risk and order one to find out
Merlin have been one of my go to shops for quite a few years now but for tyres they still arent as cheap as Bird at the momment for what i want
Also Merlin seem to be having issues with Royal Mail lately, ordered something last Sunday from them, paid for 48hr postage, they sent it out on the Monday, heard nothing since, contacted them on Friday and they said their Royal Mail depot is experincing problems
On Saturday Royal Mail finally updated the tracking as scanned into their network and will be delivered Tuesday

When I bought a Bird it came with yellow logo Maxxis tyres. And all the photos of their own bikes have yellow logos on the Maxxis tyres.
I never used CRC as their tyres weren’t necessarily for UK markets and from chatting to some in the industry OEM tyres designed for hotter climates or different climes to our swamp lands. So different compounds etc. no idea whether true or just heresay.
I always use Merlin, Tredz, Biketart, Rush Cycles and occasionally Tweeks. If in the orifice theres a leisure lakes next door so often got them to order things in and price match which they alway do without too much fuss.
CRC / Wiggle has always been a port of last resort for me based on some questionable “New” but so obviously wasn’t parts so cant say I really feel any pain from the recent demise

From who ive spoke to within in the industry and read online Maxxis do not make different compounds and casings etc.. for different climates/countries
All compounds and casings etc.. are availible to every importer but its up to that importer to decide what they want to bring into their country based on what they think they will sell

Utter tosh, the only difference is the colour of the logo for Maxxis, you just have ot pick the right compound for what you're after, easy with some - like Spesh' harder with others - like Schwalbe. If you think about it, do you actually reckon a company will run a different R&D and production line for a different country?
Its like buying OEM drivetrain parts from the likes of Merlin and also CRC / Wiggle (back when they existed) same stuff, different packaging.
