Anyone know?
I would imagine it will be at the same time as the Crankset. Doesn't the cassette require a special hub, as its got an integrated freehub?
Green doesn't go with my bike, no doubt they will bring out different colours!?
No, they have said the crankset is still at the experimental stage and will definitely not come out this year, whereas the cassette is supposedly to be released soon.
The cassette is supposed to fit on a normal Hope Pro 2 hub I believe, it just replaces the existing freehub body.
I also read somewhere that the green one was a prototype and the real ones won't be green. Seems logical that they will offer different colours at some point though.

So if you have a dodgy freehub body, save your money and buy the hope cassette, wonder how light it is!?
EDIT: Taken from BikeRadar:
According to Hope, a Pro 2 wheel with Hope cassette works out 20g lighter than with a freehub and SRAM's top-end XX sprockets fitted.
It says:

The cassette was slated for 'early 2011'. Can't wait as I need a new freehub body and cassette, and as I only really use the bike for racing I'm not too fussed about the wear life per £££. If I was dragging it through gritty winter mud I probably wouldn't spend that much on one!
iirc the cassette will only fit the new pro 2 evo hubs, which are now replacing the 'old' pro 2 hub.
if its not an unreasonable price (which i suspect it will be), i may well look into getting a set.
The last release date I was told for the cassette is early 2012
strike - where did you hear that? all the articles i have read on it have said early 2011 so far.
I just emailed Hope about this in the end and got the following response:
"It will be coming out early next year. We want to give it a long term test to make sure it is 100%"
Bit of a wait for it yet then...
There is the DT Swiss / Specialised version of this:
9 - 36 tooth, 10 speed cassette is where the 10 speed upgrade will make sense to me, having an extra gear top and bottom over an 11-32 9 speed cassette makes running a 1x10 almost a no brainer, and we can all throw our front derailleurs in the bin 🙂
Anyone heard a date for the c/rings and bash ??

First time 10 speed has appealed to me!
I'll wager a 9 speed sprocket will feel horrendous and last roughly 34 seconds in the mud.
I agree njee. BMX 9 tooth cassette sprockets feel disgusting under any load, the chain curve seems to be too tight. Really not sure I'd like that much on an MTB, especially with a 10 speed chain

This is the first time I have heard of this - can you point me in the right direction for more info?

Maybe true, but if it's your top gear you'll hardly ever use it, and you'll be spinning when you do not cranking out of the saddle.

RE 9 tooth sprocket, you guys could be right, but then again on a cassette it'll get used for a few minutes a ride mostly, on flat road / fireroad, it's not like it is going to be your main gear. I'm interested in the development anyway, but maybe there is a flaw. Still, even 11-36 is a better spread.
Ah - found it:
beat me to it! Thx
Just read that article - sounds like the Hope one is closer to production than theirs.
Great that more people are exploring the concept though.
Further reading turns up the interesting Shimano Capreo groupset:

Shame it's not 10 speed (yet...)
Shame it's not 10 speed
Or disc compatible. Mind you, would it be possible to bodge that freehub body onto eg. an XT hub?
Andy
Most shimano freehubs are interchangeable so it will most likely fit an XT hub. Cannot find the freehub body listed anywhere online as a spare part but it should be available to order as their other freehub bodies are.
So would be fairly easy to get 9 speed up and running on an mtb.
10 speed would be more difficult because of the casette... would be a great little project though if you had access to some machine tools. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to make a mutant 10 speed cassette...
can't believe no one-shot using metal matrix for cogs.
what do I know, I run Deore cassettes and anchor-like shimano hubs...
cynic-al: no one-shot using metal matrix for cogs
Don't quite understand, what you are saying here?
Will the cassette work okay with existing mechs? Only say this as min and max sizes are quoted for rear mechs, is it that 11 in given as the smallest usable size as this is the smallest available?
I think it's the max size that is important. they just give 11 as the min size as that's traditionally the smallest available size.
A simple solution that might work with the new 142mm hubs would be to have integrated lockring & 10/9t cog. There should be ample space to clear the frame and in theory you could have 11 spd with a modified shifter. Might muck up the chainline a little and the lockring would be a arse to remove.
Maybe true, but if it's your top gear you'll hardly ever use it, and you'll be spinning when you do not cranking out of the saddle
I disagree, when you're in your top gear is likely to be when properly hooning it, otherwise why would you be in your top gear?! I like the idea, I just don't think it'll work in UK conditions very well.
If I was to convert to 1x10 speed with a new hope pro2 hub, could i get away with using
the old 9 speed derailleur and my old pro2 hub with a 10 speed hub and cassette, would the derailluer have the range of movement for 10 speed.
and then get hold of a 10 speed shifter and chain.
cheers
Ric
Apparently 10 speed shifters pull a different amount of cable to 9 speed ones, so have to be used with 10 speed derailleurs.
9-36?! the spacings between cogs are going to be massive! say goodbye to finding a good cadance 🙄
at least your duel ring and bash up front will look cool.
Can somebody explain this new integrated hub thing for me. Surely if the cogs are integrated with the freehub body:
1) Every time you replace the cassette you are effectively replacing the freehub body making it unnecessarily expensive?
2) It will be a PITA to get the pawls into the body?
Am I missing something?
Can somebody explain this new integrated hub thing for me
Don't think anyone knows the answers to those questions yet.
I would hope that the cassette/freehub is able to be disassembled so you could replace just the sprocket parts when they wear out... we shall see I suppose.
From the pics I saw1) Every time you replace the cassette you are effectively replacing the freehub body making it unnecessarily expensive?
2) It will be a PITA to get the pawls into the body?
1) there isn't a freehub body as such, just lots of intricate cncing (yes undoubtedly expensive but you could pay for a lot of machining before you hit the £300 XX costs)
2) Should be almost as easy to fit as current freehubs (use gear cable to hold pawls in while you fit to hub)

Anyone heard anything on this yet? I emailed hope last year and they said the downhill one will come first followed by the normal one. So...anyone heard anything?
Nope, a few threads have appeared, not seen anything concrete yet.
How long did the seatpost take to get into production?
Hope team rider Tom Braithwaite has got the DH version on his Giant
Any news? Although with current muddy conditions I ought to gring my current cassette into bits.
Not heard anything. I emailed Hope again a couple of months ago and they again said "later this year".
What a shame that Hope didn't try to emulate the Marchisio idea of seperate and individually replaceable sprockets.
By the time Hope release it the world will have moved on to XX1 style drivetrains 🙄
I just want someone to bring out a bigger gear range for single front ring asap. Been waiting years for it to be honest. Someone get it done. 🙁
The time to market of new Hope products is ridiculous. As a company that does all their design, prototyping and manufacture in-house you would expect them to be one of the fastest in the industry, not the slowest.
As someone said above, by the time this product is available it will be out of date.
Thye may as well give up at that speed as it will be one cog to few
Still waiting...?
The Chinese Democracy cassette.
