I don’t pay for Strava so I shouldn’t really complain but I’m going to.
I now get corporate motivational poster messages from the well cool Strava team, Every ride is accompanied by ‘Kudos’, ‘Wow Nice Work’ and my personal fave ‘Way To Go!’.
It’s like they’re spamming their own app.
Rant at free stuff over.
Yep - I can't see a way of disabling them.
Scotroutes, not as annoying or sinister as when the First Minister started following and giving Kudos to everybody in Scotland.

That seems a rather aggressive response to someone trying to make you feel good, however misguided they may be.
@reeksy it's possible they have an army of cheery elves giving out personalised motivational messages, but it's most likely an automated script with no human intervention.
hard to get motivated by something that isn't even genuine
But they genuinely do want you to spend money.
I don’t get this. So maybe the increase in cost was worth it@
I pay for Strava and don’t get this functionality I’m disgruntled
Maybe it’s the same as STW and the perverse approach to growing membership- make people’s life hell and they might just join ?
But they genuinely do want you to spend money.
Clearly the aim of a business! Hasn't worked for me though as I have used it free for 10 years and like it as a way to record stuff and see how I am doing at segment level.
OP perhaps it would be better if they did location specific motivational messages so we'd get "So what?" "Hmmm..." " you shouldn't have really bothered today" " you may dress like him but you 'aint no Steve Peat" or " Awesome work! 7 grand spent on a trick e-bike so you cycled almost 3 miles and gained 17m of altitude to go for a coffee, well done you!"
:0)
Do you ever get a "What a slacker..." message?
Somebody please hack them and make it happen.
‘You suck!’
’Loooooooosereeer’
’Your mum’

Worked for me...
I used to use Strava but I've grown as a person and now I only use artisinal keepers of cycling metrics.
'It's only a game'... but, so many pros on there 😉
Suspect the Pros are there for a bit of self-promotion...I'd guess they don't actually look at Strava as all their training metrics are captured elsewhere (TrainingPeaks or the like)...the Pros are there so they get plenty followers who like to see what they do (nothing wrong with that) and maybe get a couple of people trying to beat their times.
Does seem a bit odd that the Strava notification app is now posting up 'motivational' stuff...seems to have started right after Strava posted up the summary of your year so far about 3 months before the end of this year - sort of like an attempt top kick everyone in the bahookie to get them to do more (and possibly get a few more to subscribe as they are using more)...
Are we saying these the cheesy motivational msgs are only on the free version? - that's hilarious as it's a clear nod they know it's annoying.
Spent a short time on electrician forum, their "now subscribe" msgs were way too passive aggressive to the point I stopped using the site altogether
I pay for Strava and don’t get this functionality
I rather suspected that might be the case 😂
Anyroadup, I've switched off all Strava notifications on Android so that should take care of that.
As soon as Strava came out with the "Local Legend" - The adult equivalent of handing out participation prizes to fat kids, I figured the algorithm would start spamming its users with fake kudos sooner or later.
Any "buy a subscription you freeloader" comments to add to the random kudos? I don't get them as functionality as I have paid for years. And I think companies like Strada deserve payment for service. If you aren't paying, you are the product.
I also add myWindsock so I can see how hard I battle those Belgian Hills.
I pay and I do get these messages unfortunately.
I also have had the Local Legend award - for riding a segment twice in 3 months....
Go me!
They are on the paid version too . We’ll I assume this is them.

eh?
WTF are you talking about?

Good for you. They offer the service free, I am not stealing it. I have used it on free trial to see all the features and none of them were any use to me so why would I pay for it? Would just go back to recording via some other means but the real benefit of Strava is being able to see all MY data going back through the years.

TBH I'd drop it now if more of the analysis tool didn't use it as a data feed. intervals.icu will happily use Garmin Connect. It's a shame VeloViewer is wedded to Strava - although I'm thinking of dropping that now anyway.
You could have just stopped your post at “I don’t pay for Strava”.
If I could disable people giving me Kudos I would, too close to Facebook for me.
I do use Strava but all my exercises are private as I find the Kudos culture all a bit too much. Weird I know.
Next step is to stop using it.
Yep, I very rarely make anything public either - just if I've done something others might find interesting- maybe one in 20 paddles/bikes/runs. I do wish others would do the same - my feed is cluttered with 1km walks from someone's hotel on holiday or people's 10km commute to work every single day and the like.
I'm currently in a 60 day trial of the premium version after downgrading a year or so ago. In actual strava, I can't actually find anything I want to use that the premium has unlocked for me. It might be a case of unknown unknowns and I need a google to find them.
However........I have discovered Fatmap and also that Fatmap is now owned by strava and premium strava membership gives you all the bells and whistles at Fatmap too. I think it's rather marvellous. If you are only interested in bikes (Fatmap was born in the snowsports world and broadened from there) and live in the flat lands and rarely venture to more lumpy areas you might not be too impressed, but I can see me using it a lot this winter, especially ski touring.

I usually take the same approach, though I've opened it up as part of the STW 100 day thing. Come Xmas, it'll be back to Private for most activities.

Except unlike Strava STW is no better when you pay! See the stupid formatting that’s about to appear on the above that I have simply copied and pasted as an example!!!

How do people manage to do the shite formatting here as you've demonstrated? I've never managed it - wouldn't even know how. But some people manage it every single time they attempt to quote. Is it a specific device/browser issue that I just happen not to use or basic user ineptitude?

Like this?
It happens when you select the username and "member status" fields in addition to the text.
It’s not user ineptitude 🙄
Well...
Like this?
Yes, how do you do that? Is it trying to add the username into the quote?
It doesn’t just happen when you quote, happens at other times too. I think it’s something to do with editing text once you’ve typed but before you hit submit.
Also if you try and quote a post and its reply you have to include the username bit otherwise half the text is missing- on Safari anyway. Cue a load of “it’s your browser “ comments!!! 🙄

Well…
test....edit - Nope - that didn't do it.
Is it a Safari thing? If so you bloomin deserve it, you weirdos!
It happens all the time when posting in safari mobile. Type a message out, go back and clean up spelling / punctuation etc and once you press send you post a jumble of code with some words interspersed in it.

Yeah likely Safari - on a mobile anyway
My example above was using Chrome on Android.
