The easy way is to switch to light-weight tyres and tubes. Makes a real difference and at sensible money.

If tubeless is weight saving or not depends on what tyres you like to run.

I weighed my Hope hoops with Flow rims, 20mm front was 950g and qr rear 975g. Flow rim strips were about 100g and the massive schwalbe non ust big betties are 750g. These are the lightest big tyres and wheels I have tried and they are ace. The bb tyres are not the best when wet but for the current dry conditions I am happy.

Fine in practice but I'd also have to stop riding like a stoned rhino.
Thinking about my question again (now I've had a coffee)... it boils down to:
What's the weight difference between a Flow rim and a DT5.1?
What's the weight difference between a rim strip and a tube plus rim tape?
Both of which should be easy to find out.

If you are looking at flows, and the riding they are required for, i would not worry about the weight.
It's not just light-xc bikes that benefit from low weights.
I have a set of 4.2's, supprisingly they have yet to fold despite spending more time in the air than any of my other wheelsets (sandy cutting at swinley is just too tempting 🙂 )
Stans flow = 470g
DT 5.1 = 530g
For what it's worth I used to run 5.1s and now run Flows and am much happier- easier to get the tyre on, and harder to ding. I think they're a smidge wider but am not certain.
I run them with Bontrager Rhythm rim strips which are only £4 and find these better than both the Stans and DT solutions. A rim strip and valve is 35g, and the sealant is about 40g. Standard inner tubes are around 180g each.

Really, a rear wheel with a cassette is only 25g heavier than a 20mm bolt through front wheel? That's incredible if it's right. Surely a rear hub alone is heavier than a front 20mm bolt through.
