With respect to this thread, when people laud the possibility of mudguard mounts: what's the big deal?
My CX (I call it a CX, but it's really more a gravel bike) has mounts, but I would not want to use them. I just attach SKS Raceblades, and they work just as well as full guards.
Such being the case, does it really matter if a bike has mounts or not?
CX bike will be perfect for your needs. Provided you don't accidentally buy a CX bike.
A CX bike won't have any sensible way of attaching mud guards or a rack.
This statement, for example.
(a) Raceblades do NOT work as well as full mudguards
(b) CX is a type of racing and there is no need for mudguards
(c) This quote
sums it up.What you want is something looks like a CX bike but actually isn't. Some might call it a gravel bike. That will be spot on for the commute and fine to try CX racing on
a) Raceblades do NOT work as well as full mudguards
So much this.
Unless you race, why wouldn't you want mudguard mounts?
Apart from vanity, I can't see a reason.

They don't even work slightly as well as a full mudguard.
