I've got quite a specific requirement for something that does the same job as a star but but doesn't go in the steerer. USE used to make one that was a wedge that went under the stem but they don't exist anymore.
Is there anything similar?
Or, even better, has anyone got a Ring Go Star knocking about they want rid of?
The obvious one is problem solvers who do a preload spacer.
Also Oneup stem and preload kit. Shimano pro components do a stem with preload. I've wondered if a metal cane creek 30mm crank preloaded could be made to work (it comes with a dub ring which could be bonded to a headset spacer.
I don’t know your specific requirements but I had a Ring Go Star and it was awful. If its still in my bits bin I’d pass it on but really the Problem Solvers thing looks a lot like something I had from Zero Components back in the days of 1 inch steerers and that worked fine. Another possibility if you have a 1 1/8 aluminium steerer is the OneUp EDC top cap

they don’t exist anymore.

Get one of those hidden tool in the steerer pre load jobbies.
