gears are set up and shift through all gears fine on cassette and front three rings but as soon as any load/pressure is applied to pedals going up hill the chain seems to stick to the granny and middle ring.big ring is fine but the chain doesn't want to leave the other two bloody rings, the chain sticks all the way round til it locks up and has me over the bars.
chainset is xtr m960 and chain is brand new kmc x9,i think i read somewhere that the connex link has to face the correct way or it can cause problems but i can't remember which way??
anyone got any ideas?
cheers
worn rings and chain suck is it second hand?
My immediate thought was worn rings, especially if you just replaced the chain as this normally highlights the problem.
thanks for the replies, yes rings are slightly worn but not as much as the big ring.i've never had this before, would the worn rings cause this to happen?if the chain isn't sticking it makes a loud 'ratcheting' sound which is worse on the granny ring
thanks again
Are any of the chainring teeth hooked or bent? Try taking a closer look with the bike on a stand.
worn chain rings.
I fannied about for a while with similar issue ... even filed and bent teeth on the rings thinking that the rings weren't worn.
Eventually gave up, bought a set from superstar, and the issue has not re-appeared.
its worn chain rings.
Sounds like you've got a case of sausagefingers. Try feeding your hands to a hungry racoon.
The meshing sounds indicate components at different wear stages.
"brand new kmc x9"
There is the give-away. How long have you been running the chainrings and cassette with the previous chain, a long while I guess? Am sorry to say that you will prob need new chainrings and cassette (£££).
