[Closed] What's going on here with my brake?

Following an altercation with a taxi (posted elsewhere), I'm riding a 'new' frame and fork (Charge Mixer 8).

There's something not quite right with the front brake. The pad is only hitting about 3/4 of the rotor. It's a brand new wheel, disk and brake. The adaptor is also the correct size (160).

I'm baffled. I can only think that the brake mount on the fork is out?

Looks like Deore discs and SLX calipers. The SLX etc. discs have a narrower track than Deore.

Isn't this the same issue and same combination as that parkwood thread?

Rear 160 adaptor? Front is different.

The adaptor was upside down after the bike shop fitted it! That's now corrected. ๐Ÿ™‚

It's an SLX rotor, so presumably compatible with the SLX caliper?:

How do I tell the difference between a front and rear adaptor?

Now doubting myself about the orientation. The adaptor has an indication arrow which is pointing up. Should it be pointing down?

Sillyoldman may have it. A rear 160mm mount is the same as a front 180 mount. Unless htere is any markings on it, the only way you can tell if its the right one is that it fits. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The arrow should point up.

The arrow has to point UP ๐Ÿ˜†

I'm pretty sure it's not just incorrect orientation of the mount.
Inverting the mount would skew the angle of the pad in the caliper relative to the contact point/rotor travel.
Which leaves you with the only options being:
1. Incorrect mount (most likely)
2. IS mount on fork itself incorrectly positioned during manufacture (less likely)

I've been to see a chap who builds frames. The adaptor appears to be correct.

Can anyone signpost me to what the location of the IS mount should be so I can measure it up?

Thanks for all the responses BTW.

Do you have a burr on the outside edge of the pads? If you don't, you shouldn't care about the area on the disc.

Valid point. It's a bit early to tell (new pads, town use).

Yes, Shimano say it's compatible. Maybe the angle of the photo, or just the metalwork of the centre lock mount, but the disc looked "fatter" than an old skool SLX to me:

Ooooh- every day is a schoolday. I always thought that the little arrow was the direction of rotation.

Agree, it does look thicker.

Trying to locate a 140mm front IS mount which I could then pack out. Not luck so far...

There is no 140 front mount for IS to PM.

Pretty sure yours is a 160 rear, and you need a 160 front.

Part no is SMMAF160PS
