Hi,

I have been using my old 26" Gary Fisher HKEK for commuting duties for some time, as its a light bike and its not really worth anything.
I am currently running Michelin XC road which are basically a slick skinny tyre in 26", this has loads of room between the stays and this makes me wonder whether a 27.5 rim and a Schwalbe kojak would fit, I reckon it would, but I am not sure about the RS revelation on the front. Is this suicidal?

Not sure going from 26 to 650 on the road would really make much difference to anything other than the gearing. Can you not just fit bigger slicks to the 26 wheels to increase the rolling diameter and ride comfort?

See here: http://www.bikecalc.com/wheel_size_math

A 26 x 2" tyre has a diameter of 660mm

A 650b x 1.5" (38) tyre has a diameter of 660mm too

700c x 20mm is 662 mm

So yeah you could do it, and gearing would be the same.

But why do you want to? Personally I would spend the money on some nice supple tyres and enjoy the comfort like these: https://www.compasscycle.com/shop/components/tires/26-inch/compass-26-x-2-3-rat-trap-pass/

Big tyres don't slow you down:
https://janheine.wordpress.com/2014/01/01/tires-how-wide-is-too-wide/

The diameter of the wheel makes much less difference on the road. Off road big wheels are better for rolling over imperfections, but on a road with only minor imperfections wheel size makes no difference.

Hi wzzzz that is very helpful and I guess answered my question.

When running the 26" it looks ridiculously small almost like a 24"
I have been spoilt by my 650b, as I think the bigger wheel rolls that bit better.

This was what I was thinking whilst commuting in this morning.

Commuting, its all about making it as easy as possible without breaking into a profuse sweat!

Building a 650B rim onto existing hubs with slightly bigger diameter tyres, maybe ditching the RS revelation for a rigid fork with better clearance will give the old girl a completely new lease of life, I don't think I will take it off road again.
