pah, it's all changed.

back in the day, a stw ride was a few reprobates accompanied by the likes of chipps, steve makin and a few other 'celebrities'.

and whisky was the main theme. cask strength whisky that melted the varnish on b&b coffee tables

:SNIFF:

have fun, it's great to meat fellow forum dwellers and realise that most of them are pretty cool in real life

Last week I rode 500 miles in beautiful Oregon countryside. Wednesday, I rode out from Portland towing a bob trailer with camping and hiking gear to climb Mt St Helens. It's the first time I've been out in the hills without a bike in years. Hillwalking rocks!

I will be riding Windy Willow tomorrow morning, and worth the mither and a few others. But I am not showing anyone I don't know, where they are! This on the grounds they are not strictly legal trails.

I know Mr Woppits view on this sort of trail so would not be wanting to expand the number of people who use them!

I will mainly be riding with freeridenick, Dango, stopadoodledoo and a female rider on another forum and film them whilst they all show me how to ride like a freeride god.

I will then edit the film and share it with you next week so that we can all bow down and realise how unworthy we are.

shortcut - I've had a look at the Nirvana video of Windy Willow and I can't see any new trail build - it all looks like linking existing tracks to me. How is it "not strictly legal"?

After a few weeks off due to a house sale, went out this afternoon around Holmbury and Leith. Can't believe how dry and fast it all is....it was fantastic. Windy Willow is almost* dry ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Probably go back out on Sunday.

* aside the one little muddy bit in the gully near the start that I don't think I've ever seen dry

well, it certainly is not bridleway and some of it may be classified as footpath or indeed no trail at all. so not strictly a public right of way!

I'll be mostly flanking the Ridgeway but on road on the skinny tyred machine trying to see if I can ride it faster on road than I did the Ridgeway offroad on the fat tyred springy machine. And stuff like that.

And then on sunday I shall be mostly watching the "CX race in Sir-windun" and supporting the GWR team. And maybe Thurman Merman even though I have no idea what or who Thurman Merman is. But that just adds to fun of it all.

Thurman Merman - I have seen TT's on the 303 before and it looks absolutely terrifying ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Do you have earplugs in so you can't hear the traffic or what? How far do you actually ride along there then?

Yes. Yes it is.

Do you have earplugs in so you can't hear the traffic or what? How far do you actually ride along there then?

The stupid pointy helmets dull a lot of the noise but it is still deafening. This afternoon's is only a 10miler, though I did a 25 on this stretch earlier in the year too. This one's near Yeovil - I think you're nearer the Andover end of things which is generally even busier. I've also done one there too :-). Did a 50mile one last Sunday up on the A417/A419 (Cirencester/Cricklade) which was both very busy (even at 0800) AND very noisy (concrete surface rather than tarmac). Nasty.

And maybe Thurman Merman even though I have no idea what or who Thurman Merman is.

He'll be the guy in the pink/black strip aboard a Columbus X-Wing. Be sure to laugh and point. I reckon it'll be a huge turnout tomorrow. We had well over 60 S/V/W/J'sin Rnd 1 of the Western League last weekend, and tomorrow is a combined Western/Wessex meet. The Lydiard Park races are usually very well populated.
