[Closed] What tyres for my Karate Monkey?

I've had Mud X on my 1x1 pretty much continually for the last couple of years and have found them to be great tyres.

Now after something similarly durable and mud-proof for the KM for the winter, but ideally with a bit of a bigger volume to cope with the odd bit of steep, techy Dartmoor granite (bike is rigid)...I'm not really into switching tyres every 5 minutes so needs to be a good all rounder.

Quite like the idea of Ardents but not sure whether I'll get clearance around the front mech without the use of Monkey Nuts.

Interested in what other folk are running on their KMs?

I'd heard mixed reports on that... some reviews I've read said that they were OK, but I suspect they were preferring to Californian style mud!

I've been running WTB Stout 2.3s on my Karate Monkey which are not bad in mud and various other types of terrain. I'm just about to try a 2.2 WTB Bronson on the rear. The Bronson looks good and apparently it's rain here in East Sussex tomorrow so I shall be seeing how it performs across a variety of wet surfaces and let you know the verdict.
Cheers

Cheers guys.

How do Conti Mountain Kings handle the mud? They seem to be pretty popular as an all rounder with the big-wheel fraternity.

Specialized Purgatory tyre is the only one i've found to be of a bigger volume and aimed at wetter/muddy conditions.

2.2" and Edinburgh were knocking them out at £23 i think. Have one one the front of my ss and it seemed fine on the only ride i've done on it so far.

I have some Mud X (which like the OP i find decent but a little lacking in volume) and also a Maxxis Beaver which is an excellent tyre with a bit more volume (not much though) but is a tad fragile to say the least (90kg weight limit and i'm 100kg without kit!)

As promised a quick review of the WTB Bronson 29er Race 2.2 as used on a KM. It hooks up and clears well in deeper mud in fact better than I thought it would from looking at the tread pattern. My route was across a stretch of the South Downs which comprised of a variety of terrain including slightly gloopy mud, wet grass, wet chalk/clay, wet leaves, loose and wet stony stuff. I have to say it was great I felt totally confident at all times. The tyre rolls well on tarmac too, all in all I'm a happy bunny and will definitely put one on the front when the Stout wears out.... Oh and £26.90 posted from the very nice Charlie the Bikemonger.
Cheers
RR

Happy with my Ardents - running the rear the "wrong" way round makes it OK in mud as well
