Ok guys & gals this is actually a serious question as I've never been to Forest of Dean before so would like to hear the thoughts of anyone who has for this Sundays event.

I'll be riding the 29er full susser & have a choice of either Ardents or Mud-X's.

Given its been raining all week accoring to the forecast & is due to rain all Saturday what will it be like? What sort of soil is it (peaty, clay, sandy, plain old English mud)?

Any thoughts on what's best given the two options above, I'm thinking of a Mud-X on the front & keeping the Ardent on the back ๐Ÿ˜•

TheFoD are out for a single track ride tonight so can update you tomorrow. But it has been wet recently. Rain/showers are expect over next few days, so dont expect it to be dry.

I'd go for the mud x , very slippery in the forest when it's wet.

continuing this theme...

What Bike, Sx trail with minnion on front and high roller on back, or trek fuel with diesel on back and a Michedlin DH tyre on front?

Also Flats or pedals - bearing in mind it will be wet root city there in those woods and I'm setting off mid morning, so a few hundred wheels would already have given those roots an extra buff!

If anyone needs some MudXs I have a nearly new set and a warn set, plus I am minutes away from the trails and marshalling at the event. Pics in my classifieds.

We found one of the event organisers laying out last night up to top of their wheels in the mud ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Unfortunately for him he was in a van at the time ๐Ÿ˜ณ Fortunately for him though, one of us had a 4x4 to rescue him ๐Ÿ™‚

It's been raining pretty much all this week (although the sun is shining at the moment 8) ) and the trails are wet but the ground here mostly drains well and the mud is wet rather than sticky. So slippery trails rather than claggy. After last nights ride the wet mud was dripping off the bikes and only a quick hose down was needed to clean them.
