Jimmy
I went through the same thing last month (but with the 'Hike the bike charge up' BA).
I checked with the BCF, my house insurer, travel insurance and finally a sports equipment travel ' specialist '.
As soon as I mentioned plane travel they would go nowhere near covering the value of the bike (£3000ish).
BA..£400 for a single item
BCF .. Nope ,not for flights.
House contents ..£1500 but with a new (super dooper ) different policy.
Sports equip travel specialist translated to "Sorry sir ,we don't do bikes". They would of course cover a set of golf clubs for zillions!
I gave up in the end and crossed my fingers.

Oh,and I also posted and searched on here ,thinking there may be a few recommendations or old threads of people being looked after /abandoned ,nothing came up.
Of course I may just be a bit crap at searching this site.

Good luck
