i have just bought an 07 yeti asr-sl frame and am wondering if it would be an idea to put a set of fox talas 36 rc2s on, so have the option of 100/130/150 (or whatever it is) as would like to use it as an xc machine, but if its possible to make it into a sort of an AM bike then that would be very nice indeed.
thoughts?

I have the 06 version and with 105mm fork is is already prone to a bit of 'wander' on steep climbs, not that it would be a problem with nice switchy talas.

The letters stand for 'Active Suspension Racking - Super Light'! This may give you a better idea of the 'strong-versus-light/racey' calculations that went into this frame. The front of mine is not exactly beefy and if you ride it like an all mountain bike, ie square edge hits and drops/jumps, you risk snapping the headtube off with 130mm fork let alone a 150mm one.

Get a 575 for your fork, or ride it with 100mm fork (36's are well heavy if you are only ever going to have them set at 100mm), mine is well fun to ride at normal fork length.

i currently have a set of f100s so was wondering whether to keep those or get some talas, i have a demo 7 you see and want a trail bike/xc bike but didnt want to go for the 575 as it seemed daft as its only an inch differnce from the demo and i cant afford all three

I'd stick with the f100's. It's an XC frame. A 36 would, in my opinion, risk too much stress on the headtube welding, and would result in the rear suspension getting way out of its depth way before the fork did.

I'd echo Julian - if you want something gnarlier, the 575 or the ASR7 would be better suited. Or even an ASR5...
