2hrs riding and the newly installed flats for messing in the snow and it seems that the R pedal has completely stripped the XTR crank.

Now what? Is there a solution to this that would allow me NOT to have to buy new cranks?

Anything is repairable - a thread insert will do it but I don't know how available they are in pedal threads.

An insert can be machined from scratch if non are available in the correct size

Any decent bike shop will carry a wee stainless insert for this very problem, if you don't find one locasl give me a shout I have them hanging in the workshop.

i only buy pedals that have a slot for the spanner and have a complete round flange at the end of the tread, seems to stop that problem.

bit late now for that advice though

Oops, LBS or even a proepr hardware shop (you know the type run by two old buys who look like they make things in their spare time too) will have a heli-coil to fit that.

Hell if you can heli-coil a cylinder head sparkplug hole then you can sure as hell do it to a crank arm, imagine the pressures/stresses in there!!
