We are heading to Hamsterley tomorrow since we are finally allowed out the house.
What are the highlights of Hamsterley? Anyone recommend any particular trails?
First half of Black then head up to four lane ends to do the red descents - K Line etc, then up the fireroad to the hut at Descend Bike Park to pick up the black again to finish. First half of the red is pretty dull.
Check the postings on the FB page and the signs in the car park. Accelerator was shut last week for maintenance and they were pretty peeved that people were ignoring the signs as the trail needed tamping. My usual route (at 8pm in the dead of winter mind!) is:
Pikes teeth
Route 666
slog up to top of transmission & kline,
down k-line, transmission,
Accelerator
back up past the DH track to Section 13, home for tea and lack of medals. (so pretty much what Martin said)
There's some bits of the red that take you far out to the south west of the forest. Dull as dishwater.
Please, please park in the forest car park, accept it's a weekend, pay the parking. It all goes back into the trails & there's loads in the pipeline. It'll be busy in all the car parks so beware & get there early. They've been known to shut it on previous post-lockdown weekends.
