Looking to do a bit of road training on my CX bike, so I'm thinking of slapping some road tyres on it. I have never brought road tyres, any recommendations?
Continental Gp4000's.
Conti GP 4 season for a bit more back road/ winter puncture protection. Don't feel the urge to go too narrow if not road racing - 25mm is fine, 28mm if you are a biffer.
Anything but continental, Maxxis Re-Fuse 25.
no conti - based on?
We are talking road not mtb....
What for ?? If for commuting get something more puncture proof than your Conti GPs. I walked in the Bike Works and said "give me some tires that are guaranteed to never ever puncture or I wil have your job etc etc" after the notorious monday morning of three punctures in Penicuik (it's a war zone).
Using Conti Ultra Gatorskin so far so good ! Not the fastest but get you there.
Will be using them for 50+ mile training runs, so lighter is best I guess?
have a look at Bonty RaceLite's - cheap to buy, last forever
For reliable - Continental GP4 season
For very fast - Vittoria Open-Corsa EvoCX
For alround - Vredestein Fortezza Tri-comp Quattro
Tri comp are very good - was all I used for a few years.
Schwalbe Marathon Racers 32c. Can handle a bit of light offroad, and you know you'll be tempted. ๐
putting road tyres on your cx seems a bit odd unless you got a second wheelset.
Why not whack on some small block 8's they are pretty fast on road and still workable off road
I've got 28c Conti Ultra Gatorskins on my CX bike for commuting and road duties. Work well. Even done a bit of tricky off road stuff on them fine.
Why is it odd? My cx spends half it's life with road tyres on.
My cx has 3 sets of tyres. Mud/off road, hefty but fast 38's for gravel and back roads and 25's for road days. 10 mins to swap them so less faff than deciding which shirt to wear. I would say 25' or 28's. you might be tempted to do a touch of rough stuff if you locality provides such a thing so just bear that in mind.
