The MK3 rims are reduced at the min and I need a set of rims for a wheel build for my Capra. The issue is, all I've see googling the MK3 Flow rim are post about cracks around the spoke holes, is this still an issue, or are they not worth the punt?
Really, I'd like a set of XM 481's but the flows can be had £30 cheaper.
What else should I be considering other than DT or Stans? I'm building up a set of 29er wheels on 32 hole Hope hubs.
Cheers
Where have you seen the Flows for £30 less than 481s?
I have 2 sets of flows, ridden hard with little mechanical sympathy.
Both have lasted couple years with absolutely no issues.
Its all about the build 😉
Where have you seen the Flows for £30 less than 481s?
That’s for the pair. CRC have them for £65 but that’s £55 if you use the £10 off for ‘new’ customers. DT Swiss are cheapest on bike discount for just over £70.
XM481’s in 650b / 32 spokes is 76.90 euros on starbike. When I bought mine from there they came with sqorx nipples and phr washers I think.
Flows are great rims have a flow on rear & Sentry up front to run a 2.6 up front. It is all about the build. Never have cracking round the spoke holes on any stan’s rims.
Anything else I should consider apart from DT and Stans?
Ended up going for ex511 for £65 a rim from CRC - well after a few 'new customer' codes 🙂
The rims were slightly heavier than the xm481's but probably better suited for the bike.
Just calculating spokes now, would I be alright just using 291mm spokes for the full build?
Front
Spoke length left: 290.6 mm accurate, 291 mm recommended.
Spoke length right: 291.4 mm accurate, 292 mm recommended.
Rear
Spoke length left: 291.6 mm accurate, 292 mm recommended.
Spoke length Right: 290.4 mm accurate, 290 mm recommended.
Yeah, that's definitely what I'd use (assuming the numbers are right of course)
