Can anyone suggest some lightish mid range wheels that would be suitable for xc racing/trail riding?

I currently run hope xc hubs on old mavic f519 rims which I'd like to upgrade for something lighter!

Any advice would be great!

Stans olympics or alpines on pro2. Whichever is lighter.

I use stans's 355 (crest) on mavic pro 2s and they are light and strong enough for general riding (for me anyway).

Factory wheels are cheap on on-one at the minute.

Superstar Superleggera ti hub things on sapin Ray spokes on Alpine or crest rims. receipt I have is just over £400 and they weight 1400gms approx. I've had mine a few months and they are very nice, running them on a fully rigid bike and riding in the Yorkshire Dales, so getting a bit of a pasting and seem to be holding up.

Alternatives are
Stans hubs on stans alpine or crest rims approx £380 from JRA
AC hubs on alpine or crest rims approx £550 from JRA

These are all lightweight xc wheels probably for sub 13stone people who aren't going to be trying to copy Chris Akrigg.

Have a look on Ebay - a business is selling new sets of Stans ZTR Olympic rims with Sun Ringle Dirty Flea QR hubs.

I ran this rim/hub combo on my Giant Anthem X last year and they are light and strong and came in under 1500g for the pair.

The best bit is they're selling them for £199.

Hope Hoops are cracking value.

Pro II Evo with Stans Crest were on my shopping list, but I'm currently thinking of the Pro3 SP-XC6 with Crest. The latter are lighter but not suitable for heavier riders.

American Classics, very nice, good strength to weight ratio, beautiful hubs, and well priced

AC350s are great value for the weight and are pretty reliable.

I just got a pair of Hope Hoops with the Pro2 evo hubs and Crest rims.

Very pleased with them. They are not just light and fast - but more importantly very stiff too.
