"the" Park Tools one

It is the no-brainer, I have had a few, but I'm sure there are more out there that are better... a friend recommended the feedback Ultralight...

Parks workstands are crap till you get to the pro level ones. - the cheapest one has only 2 legs and is unstable for anything but the most basic tasks.

If budget extends get the - feedback sports pro ultra light is great. The pro not so light has the same qr clamp just steel not alloy. Both fold up small for easy portability.

Avoid the sport model though , it lacks the quick release clamp.

Wrenchforce are nice! Used to use Var ones a lot a long time ago and they used to be good. Pro-level Park ones are good but as said the entry-level ones are not. At the mo I use a Lidl £30 special. Very, very stable but a bit cheap, heavy and not amazing fittings. Works well enough in use though.

Feedback are good quality, I have a cheaper one that is about 5 years old now and it works well. It's probably something I'd like to get my hands on before parting with cash these days though.

minoura one is good (3100?), as long as beig light and folding up small isn't on your list

(wish I had one)

I have a Kestrel and it is great, probably overkill for the home mechanic though. Have used the ultimate/feedback ones before and they are good for the money. Also have a folding Tacx for going to races and that's not bad, though it's a bit wonky since Dave drove over one of the legs....

*Waves at Sam

You should bring your clown wheel bikes over here to Quebec and visit some time 😉

Have a Revolution Tune Up Workstand, from Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op. It's identical to the x-tools one in the bikeradar test. It's pretty good and exceptionally good value, but there's a few things that irritate me:

From the factory the clamp around the telescopic tubes doesn't do up tight enough. I took a file to it, to increase the space between the jaws. It's been fine since.

I've had it fall over a couple of times. Usually when removing the front wheel while the rear is in place and the bike's been elevated right up (like you might do while fettling brakes). By resting a toolbox on the legs this problem goes away.

thse guys seem to do some good deals on stands;

http://bdbikes.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=92

their £35 one is £70+ at halfords plus their £55 is the same as the Halfords one that costs a lot more.

Thread hijack. Any recommendations for a bike stand that works well with MTB and a CX bike?

I have the Feedback Pro Elite. Before I had the X-Tools/Revolution Tune up stand (which comes rebranded under many different names). The Pro Elite is expensive, but solid piece of kit. Very stable and the clamp mechanism is a joy to use.

Thanks Jenn! Is there a publicly available index of all that stuff?

The problem for most is that it isnt the kind of thing you own a lot of is it?

I might just stump up the cash and go for the Feedback, then I can use it at the bikepark* too (quick fold and stick it in the car between runs)

Odd how your requirements change when you move to North America 😉

The search function in the Mag Archive (search box on top left of screen, not top right) should search the contents story of each issue, so searching for 'workstand' brings up that issue and any others in which workstands feature in the contents blurb.

I say 'should', needless to say it doesn't always work that well, but glad to be of service this time 😉

There was an index (someone did one independently) - not sure where it is now.

Feedback stand here, great bit of kit; when we've gone away for stuff like 10UTB, and the LBS chap comes along for support, we take mine rather than his Park Tools stand...

Bit pricey but I talked my folks into getting it as a Christmas / birthday present 🙂
