My mate (male) is looking for a hybrid and has £400 to spend, any recommendations?

hybrid as in will go on road or off or hybrid as in mtb geometry for the road, if the latter with the boardmans you get a lot of bike for the money

Worth having a look at the Trek 7.2FX.
Nice butted frame,Shimano transmission.Looks good.Now £400.
