I need a new helmet. I ride XC and want to spend no more than £50.

I have a medium sized head.

looks good value and I've always found Giro helmets to be comfortable and well made

One that fits you head... you need to try them on (the ones you fancy the look of), as not all helmets will fit/sit properly!
I run a Giro Xen, yet the Giro E2 didn't sit on my head well at all, though it fits my brothers head fine...

Pay the price of going to a shop & getting a decent fitment, and then reap the rewards for cheaper mail order when you need to replace it (luckily the xen's been about a while)

EDIT: you've only one head and a better fitting helmet will protect it better...

I replaced my Met Veleno with a Bell Slant a few weeks ago. Not used it much yet, but first impressions are it is a very comfy helmet.

Seems as well vented (if not better) than the Veleno, the pads are 10x more comfortable and it only took minutes to get adjusted.
Only disadvantage at the moment I can find is that it's uni-size so if you have a pea-head it can look a bit large. I'm somewhere in between, so it's not too bad.

Major advantage is that Halfords stock them and they don't really vary in price much, so it's easy to try before you buy & get it from there.
