think my freehub body's on the way out too (ss conversion) and the chain's not brand new either, but things feel a bit... grindy.

None of the above. Just a bit loose, like it keeps slipping a bit on lightish pressure. Freehubs go by slipping under power. Very nasty. Knee/stem interface (if you're lucky).

cheers - its not noisy or stiff, but i am starting to get slipping under pressure/power. it like a slip for maybe half a crank rotation which made me think it was a pawl in the freehub body not catching.
didn't occur to me that the bb would slip. how would that be happening, mechanically? worn bearings?
