I've managed to fully kill off the rear hub on my cheapo Boardman cross bike so I need a replacement and thought I might as well get something half decent that will last me a while, as I tend to keep hold of kit until it is well and truly rinsed.
On the mtb I really like Hope hubs for the fact that they are genuinely serviceable and can be made to fit more or less any axle.
Is there anything else worth looking at that's got serviceable cartridge bearing hubs and rims that can withstand a bit of ham fisted rock garden skittering?
Cheers!
You can get hope cx wheels? I run them on my cotic escapade and they're fairly bomb proof so far....
I've got Stans Grail on Superstar Switch Evo hubs, the hubs are at least as good as the Hopes I've had in the past, easily serviceable with cartridge bearings. Not that I've had to after two full seasons of CX racing and knocking on 1500km of muddy winter miles
DT do 22 mm internal width Cross/Gravel wheels now, if you're hard on hubs they could be worth a look.
As Steve above - Stans grail on novatecs. Run tubeless - check out spokesman for a good wheelbuilder in the UK who can do you a set. Alternatively get a carbon rim built on novatecs from one of the farsports importers - this bloke here got me a good tubular set for a great price, but has clinchers on offer too.
Hope hubs are fine but they're poor value these days.
My JRA Jawbone wheelset using Pacenti SL23's rims have been bomproof for the last 2 1/2 years including 3 Peaks and the Torino Nice Rally.
Been running Kinesis CX disc for three years with being little love, only now need new bearings and a thorough truing. Freehub came away last week but actually just needed the end cap tightening.
I'd deffo take a punt on Hunt were I buying now, lots of them under smiling faces at dirty Reiver this year
Another shout out for JRA jawbones
Did run Hunt 4 season wheels.
Didn’t have much luck with rear wheel.
The cassette body seemed to make a lot of noise and felt like it was slipping.
Replaced body, bearings several times with no joy.
Just recently rebuilt rims onto Hope RS4 Centrelock so we will try them for size.
Always had good luck with Hope hubs.
