Deore or SLX, anything more expensive is superfluous really.

And 10spd chainsets will work fine in a 9spd setup, so don't worry.

Shimano, one you like the colour of. SLX comes with a better BB, and the paint doesn't wear off the arms like with Deore, but Deore's still really good and can be much cheaper.

the 9 speed SLX is available in a double and bash (still dont understand why they dont do this in 10 speed)

and killer value:

If I had the money I would buy 3 and get the £40 off. but I dont

I use the SLX 170mm above, and love them - very stiff. Would be interesting to know how they compare stiffness wise to the newer boggo SLX and heavier zee.

This is what I did . 75 quid for some previous generation xtr cranks with brand new rings. Just needed a bb.

I picked up a LX for my winter trainer from CRC. Don’t know if there’s much performance difference with SLX but personally I think the LX looks better. Forty quid including BB

Possibly. Some require longer bolts, though most these days have that sussed, but it does vary from design to design (one of mine needs shorter bolts!)
