Building up my Planet-X Jack Flash DJ frame that I got ages ago.

Just need to sort some cranks & chainring - will be running it single speed.

Amy recommendations for a half decent budget crankset?

I’ve got an old pair of Shimano Zee cranks on my jump bike (Charge Blender).

I bent a set of those Deore jumping my hardtail. For a pure DJ bike i’d be looking at bmx cranks. Bomb proof compared to MTB cranks.

What’s your budget?

It depends on your rear hub.

Are you running a BMX style cassette hub with a tiny 10t driver? If so you need BMX style 3 piece cranks like anything on this page... https://alansbmx.com/collections/bmx-cranks/

If you have an MTB hub with a single sprocket on with 12t or 13t you can use any cheap MTB cranks with a 28t or 30t chainring.

Mine came with Truvativ Descendant cranks, I am 110kg and mine gets abused any normal mtb crank will survive .

whatever you get the cheapest as it will get scratched and rubbed

Is it a normal BB or a BMX sized one?

Normal?

BMX - US, mid, Spanish, Euro?

They're as bad as we are, at least they just need to swap bearings!

Pretty much all mid now with only the odd euro.

Thanks all.

It's a BSA 68/73 for the BB.

Those Trail Tech from Tarty look good - out of stock though.

As it's single speed I need something that'll take a 7speed chain - the 12 speed Deore won't.

Current thinking is a set of square taper with a cheap chainring.

the 12 speed Deore won’t

it'll take a 7 speed or even a singlespeed chain just fine. full engagement of the narrow-wide isn't an issue as the chain tension keeps everything on

I wouldn't. Square taper loves to round on a heavy landing. just get some old shimano (zee would be my choice) second hand

I have RF Aeffect on my pump track, rag around, jumpy type steel ss.

Mated to a Hope BB though if you want to go balls deep then might one suggest Eewings.

Will take a punt on the Deore cranks for £38 - will be mainly used on the pump track so no monster landings.

They should be fine, I think someone bending them is an exception.

Leave square taper on the scrapheap of history where it belongs.

Honestly, any Shimano cranks and BB that you like the look of will be more than adequate.

Im running those Deore cranks and BB as singlespeed with a singlespeed chain on a BFe 26 and it works perfectly.

I stuck some square taper SRAM ones on mine (as they were free) but managed to bend them with a hard landing..
I'm possibly going to just put some saint on as they are spare... (too long for me to use pedalling)

The correct answer is Profile racing cranks.

Been running a re-purposed set of Tiagra cranks on my DJ/pumptrack bike, but i'm fairly light at 65kg, and don't tend to break much anyway.
