[#5662970]

I going to build up notmyrealname's El Mariachi frame for big bike packing trip next year. I want to go for some field serviceable brakes. I've used and been very happy with the BB7s that have been on my old CX bike and now my Fargo so I think that's what I'll go for. What is the best lever to use in conjunction with the mtn BB7s.

The Avid speed dial ones are regarded as the best as you can adjust the modulation on them with the dial. I'm just using shimano v brake levers with mine and they work ok but I prefer the feel of the avid blades.

Any lever Pete - they're all pretty good these days, and I'd say any preference is subjective (i.e. almost meaningless!)

As above. SD7s are handy as they have some adjustment. You can always go really, really spendy for the Avid ones that are something like 6g lighter ๐Ÿ™‚

I like the speed dial as it give me another variable to fettle with, but I like that sort of thing. It probably does not make a huge difference but it satisfies my tweaking ways.

Avid speed dial as you are able then to run a bigger gap between the press and the rotors and adjust the leverage on the levers to compensate. The gap is the biggest advantage of running bb7s over hydros.
