What's the industry recongnised standard? Is there one.

I'd like to become a bike mechanic whizz (firstly for my own bikes), but I think more importantly I need to get out of my current job (9-5) office. I know this will take years rather than weeks, but what are the essential building blocks that will kick start a potential career I've been thinking about this for a while, so it's not spur of the moment pipe dream.

What routes are there that I can take? Are there part time courses that'll fit around my current employment? I probably have loads of other questions, but currently sat at home recovering from concussion after a big OTB, so excuse me if my train of thought is somewhat skewed!

Cheers

Cytech is the generally recognized standard for bike mechanic training, although I think the best think it just to spend a good amount of time tinkering with your own bike. Try completely stripping it down and rebuilding to get a good understanding of how it all fits together.
