i'm afraid that i overslept today, have only just caught the race.what happened to the brit riders? have they crashed out?
I think their stems are longer than 50mm too!
Or stopping at the top of EVERY climb to "just tweak my gears and check my pressures" (whilst pretending not to be in coronary distress.
This is a thriller of a race, love it!
Makes me want a race bike and some lycra. And some lungs. And some legs. Proper impressive performance.
Sprint finish!
lost his saddle
see his saddle fall off?
Has he lost his saddle?
Fontana NO SEAT!!!!!
wot no seatpin?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNN!!!
Epic ding dong battle here, they're on the limit!
commentators not noticed his lost his saddle! awesome race
Saw that just now poor sod ouch and they have not noticed on the commentary
I saw it fall off, wondered what had come off his bike, then no seat!
Can't believe they haven't noticed either!!

"Fontana is almost sitting down" - Ed Leigh
Erm, no he's not.
I'm glad Fontana held on for Bronze after losing his saddle, he deserved that medal. Great finish!
Magic racing
God they look trashed at the finish! How did Fontana keep going with no seat?
Great Finish!
so what happened to the brits? ๐
Kileen fell, suspected broken ankle. Don't know who else we have?
The brits stopped for the cake back on lap 1..........

He stood up - must have killed his legs. Mind you I once heard of someone finishing a time trial after loosing his saddle ten miles to go and still doing a good time
They deserved the medals though. Spaniard deserves a special moustache medal though

ah sorry to hear that ๐ was a great race though ๐
Crashed, laid beside track receiving attention
sorry double post ๐ณ
Killeen was the only Brit in there. Goes on World Cup points for qualification and Liam is the only one who got sufficient points. Same with Annie Last in the women's yesterday. Rio should have riders like Kenta Gallagher able to qualify as well...
Didn't Kileen crash in one of the other olympics too?
Haha an advert about cake straight after the MTB ended ๐
Great race enjoyed it. Wanted Fontana to pull it out of the bag at the end.
i think he did in beijing.he crashed on the first lap and damaged his handlebars.he did finish the race i think.
How does your whole seat post fall out?! Course obviously rougher than it looks on equipment. Absalon failed due to a puncture.
Maybe he was riding the smallest frame he could get like some on here do and the post was up over the limit
I imagine it just snapped rather than slipped. You only need to hit one of those bumps a bit too hard and it could finish off an ultra flimsy carbon post. (Assuming that they're using an ultra flimsy carbon post)
Excellent race, actually brought home the idea that mountain biking should include some element of athleticism as well as bouncing downhill with 6 inches of suspension, and such a good muppet detector for STW.

This is what I thought too... but during the commentary they said that the Germans had entered Robert Foerstemann, who is a track sprinter, into the race. How on earth was it possible for him to get any World Cup points? Or does it work on a country basis... so the country earns points and then gets to choose who goes?
Plus, don't the Olympics host nation get an extra place or two in every event? Or does that only qualify if there is no-one who has qualified?
A country gets start spots depending on where in the total point rankings (UCI) their country is to a maximum of three start spots. We got enough for one start spot. I don't remember the exact numbers but it's something like 1-5 get 3, 6-10 get 2 etc... We then get to pick who goes as our rider. Liam was by far the quickest at the Nat Champs last month.

Gutted for Liam.
What's all this about Shurter having his nose drilled!?
Watched both the men's and the women's events this weekend and thought they were both really entertaining. The men's especially.
I can remember thinking ages ago that the course looked a bit dull but will admit I was wrong- you can definitely see the logic of how it works for better spectating and TV coverage, I thought it worked really well.
Plus, the pace looked brutal and those technical sections would be so much more challenging on the 4th, 5th time round etc.
