guess it will be an 80 / 20 on /off road mix
one option would be a cx tyre but don't they wear pretty fast? what are they like on the road?
thought possibly Schwalbe Sammy slick, or something like a Specialized Borough? - basically a slick with a bit of tread on the edges

Schwalbe Marathon Dureme - I had a pair for a while and they were great. Last forever too.
Schwalbe Land Cruiser worked well for me and cheap.
After yesterdays 3 peaks I now love my Land Cruisers. I've commuted on them for a few months and they have been faultless. Cope surprissingly well on the off road bits too.

The answer is a tough touring tyre, as mentioned above.
I used Land Cruisers and think they're really good, although were a bit of a nightmare when got frosty. Surprisingly good off-road and bomb proof hence the 3 peaks popularity. A friend uses some form of Marathons as he wants a bit more speed and raves about them also.
