[#5067678]

I believe some people on this site might have an opinion about such things, so what to go for?

I only need a frame as everything else is coming off my 5 Spot, possible choices so far are Yeti SB-66, Nicolai, ION-16 (possibly an AM).

Other suggestions or opinions on the above please.

Not thought about a Commencal, good looking bike.

I had a search for other threads similar but to avail...

Ibis Mojo Hd would be top of my list if I could afford one

I have a Nicolai and its the best bike i've ever had

I have a mate who has the commencal Meta, and he wouldn't swap that

would also consider Turner 5 spot (edit: just seen you already have one, what's wrong with it? i have a mate running his in 160 flavour and it's pretty good)

and the canyon strive is a lot of bike for the money

i've ridden all 4 and still wouldnt change my Nicolai

mda, what's the sizing like on a Tracer? I think I would need a large.

prof, I do have a hankering for a Nicolai, already got a 5Spot and that's what will donate it's bit on to the new frame. Love the 5Spot but after riding a mates SB66 at the weekend I've realised I need a bigger frame hence the search for a new one.

A bit left field but how about a Knolly Chilcoten (160mm) or Endorphin (140mm)

What's the top tube on your 5 spot? On a medium Tracer 2 it's 23", large is 24".

My shortlist would probably be...

Spicy
Enduro
Cotic Rocket

The first two don't come as frame only and the third is 150mm, but I don't like making things easy for myself.

Not that I'm looking to buy one of course, but I couldn't see any via Google. Do you have any more info?

Just out of interest. Honest.

Oooh, that Devinci looks good and reasonable a £2k for the carbon (if £2k for a frame can ever be reasonable!)

Dixon is a 145mm rear end - more Zesty than Spicy

Titus El Guapo (when they get stock in)
i bought one last week...first ride out at weekend...its ACE....my brother has one too..plus its £600 for brand new frame with warranty...must run it with a 160mm fork or BB is too low

PS...no monuments where harmed in the making of these photos

Another left field suggestion:
http://www.sps-distribution.co.uk/product-details/carve-6/32

[img] [/img]

152mm rear and works best with a 160mm fork. It's one fast bike. You can have custom geometry if you want it.

You can get a test ride by getting in touch with SPS distribution ^^^

honourbalegeorge - I wonder if they've actually sold any as frame only though? I see that French shop says "Out Of Stock" and Hotlines don't seem to list frame only as an option.

If only they'd do a "budget" carbon model like they do for the Zesty. Maybe next year...

Christ - what size is that? It looks all wrong in that pic - normally a good looking bike.

It's his Sea Otter bike. Am not sure how friendly the steering would be going up hill!

OK shortlist is now as follows, in ascending price order....

Cotic Rocket £1499 (w/ Fox CTD Kashima shock)
Devinci Dixon Carbon £1999
Yeti SB66 Alu £1999
Nicolai ION 16 £2234

Obviously I want the Nicolai but is it worth £750 more than the Cotic?

That Nicolai according to the Nicolai site is 3.95kg with shock. Or 8.7lbs in old money. That's some serious bulk. I wouldn't want an AM bike even close to a frame weight that high.

Purely from aesthetics, I would count the Devinci out. It looks all wrong.

For me, it would either be the Rocket or the Yeti.

That 3.95KG includes a headset & Monarch plus, and it's a large frame

They quote the medium frame at 3.2KG without shock which is just over 7lbs.

A small Yeti SB66A without shock is 3136g (pic below)- so the Nicolai is no heavier. And the rocket is 7.6lbs with an RP23, so it's about the same weight. The Nicolai has more travel than either, too.

sounds like you really want the Nicolai - really not suprising, but then i'm biased - but you'd be equally happy with the Cotic, it is a nice looking bike and a £750 saving is a fair chunk of cash

i would see if you can test ride both (or all 4) decide which you like the best and if its still the Nicolai, trawl the classifieds and see if you can pick up a bargain - or put in some more overtime 🙂

Santa Cruz Blur LT? or is 140mm too shallow on the travel?

Cheers

Why would you weigh a frame without a shock? They're all a bit porky.
You could get an Ibis Mojo HD or Transition Covert carbon frame for around the price of that Nicolai (with a cheeky LBS discount).

Those El Guapo (stoopid name for an ugly bike) frames from On One look the best value ever, if a tad odd.

I can't quite believe the 2k price tag on the complete bike - CCBD air and Reverb too.

Not sure about the Blur but 140mm would be fine travel wise, Covert not sure about either although I'm guessing the Mojo HD would be much like my DW 5 Spot (but lighter and more travel) so might be worth tracking down a ride on one of those, although it's £2400!! I didn't plan on selling an organ to fund it.

Trying to get a test ride on the Nicolai is going to be a struggle I think and same for the Rocket (without travelling 200 miles north), already had a go on my mates SB66 which i really liked.

and yes the Devinci does look wrong in carbon, in ally though looks OK.

El Guapo - yes stupid value for money but I've already got the kit to go on it so would rather have a nicer (read: posher) frame.

Actually could get an El Guapo frame only for £599 with a Monarch or £799 with CCDB Air. Which means it could be a free upgrade depending on what I get for my 5 Spot frame.

Mmmmmmm.......

although it's £2400!!

The Nic is £2234!
10% dizzy from the LBS = £2160
Is the name el guapo supposed to be an ironic name? Truly an ugly bike.

Apparently, they ride REALLY well. Very low BB which is meat/poison.
