Hi all,

Going over to visit family in Sheffield tomorrow and me and my brother in law were looking to go for a ride in the afternoon.

The only place I really know of close to sheffield is wharncliffe, I understand that its possible to ride a decent length loop in there but I just wanted to know whether the trails are sign posted like a proper trail centre or whether a bit of local knowledge is needed.

Any other suggestions for a 15-20km loop as close to Sheffield as possible would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

You can ride all day up there with a good cross section of disciplines - it's poopy when wet though. Don't know enough to give route advice though - sorry.

Piss-wet-through. Ok on the fireroads but it's a bog between the trees at the minute.

Any other suggestions? Fancied something a little more challenging than a cruise around ladybower...

well it will be muddy - the red XC loop in link below is signposted but is about 12k (i think - i never actually do it the way it is signposted ) if you can beg one the Wharncliffe loop in the Vertical Brain Dark Peak guide is better on the ground than it reads - once you are in the area stuff appears but it has hammered it down and it don't dry quick

I would avoid Wharncliffe like the plague, it will be a boggy disaster area. Was out on Blackamoor hill and Houndkirk moor (SW of Sheff) today, both a little damp but fine.

Have a look at the OS and try something out there.
Have a good weekend,

A

Thanks everyone,

I`ve managed to find one of the dark peak guides, a ride called the Bradwell circuit starting from Hope. Directions look fairly concise so will give it a go!

Thanks again.
