So I've only just today discovered that the forest in riding distance to me has MTB trails! I went and checked it out today and it was gorgeous and filled with bluebells, but I had a bit of a tough time figuring out which trails are good. I only managed to do one which was a little above my pay grade, steep narrow switchbacks.

There aren't many trails on trailforks and the Strava segments thing is a little confusing and not easy to use. I was wondering if anyone else is familiar with Wentwood and knows the best trails to try out? For an intermediate rider.

Also what's the best way to get to the trails from the A449 side? Had to do a little bit of hikeabike to get on to a fireroad.

I'd be keen to know, I went there once many years ago and there was nothing there, but I gather it's been 'developed' a lot...

Last time I went a few trails had trees felled over the top, Ive not been back. There were some really good trails there. I think it's also referred to as the wettest forest in South Wales, and for good reason in my experience. It's definitely worth more of an explore though

Last time I went there a couple of yrs ago there were a couple of idiots razzing around the trails at top speed on scrambler bikes. really wouldn't want to have a head on with one of them.

I should imagine its about as good as its ever been with the recent run of dry weather. Well worth an explore. Not been for a while and things do change but this was a nice XCish loop. Quite a bit of fire road but linked up some good single track.

The bottom left loop (shaped like the boot of Italy) was the best bit but the start was hard to find. If you zoom in you can see me wandering round looking.

There is plenty to do there of all grades if you are prepared to put in the miles. Most of the hard stuff is on the steep slope overlooking the A449. Some of it is scary steep and best left for winter when it is wet (NOT). Loads of old skool pedally stuff through the trees too, which can be fun. Last time I was up there 12 months gone there was a fair bit of new activity so I guess lock down as seen a lot of new development.

This is great thank you! A route to check out was exactly what I was looking for. It was bone dry yesterday which was amazing, I can imagine it would be nigh on unrideable in the wet. So many ruts.
