Came off the road bike a couple of weeks ago - hadn't ridden it since due to missing chunks of skin, but got the LBS to straighten the gear hanger which I'd bent. "Do you want me to check anything else?" he asked. "No" I said "The rest seems OK". Fixed next day.
Spent this morning arranging new home insurance with Esure as it was £100 cheaper than Aviva even with all the bikes covered. No, I've made no claims in the last 5 years...
Went off at lunch time for a socially distanced chat with Laverack about a possible new bike build. They'd asked me to bring my current bike along to help check measurements. All was well while they admired it at a social distance, but when they got in close there was a sudden "You know you said you crashed....did you know you'd cracked the downtube?" Sure enough, impact has driven the wheel/forks backwards and kinked/cracked the downtube.
So, came home, reported the claim to Aviva online, and now trying to get through to Esure to see what it's going to do to next years premium. Bugger, bugger, bugger!
Sorry, but you’re physically safe, and gonna get a new bike, paid by your insurance company. What was the downside? Oh yes, higher premiums. But you’re going to get a new bike!!!
Yeah,, slightly higher premiums might result, but you’re well enough to be bothered about it, that’s reason enough to be thankful mate 👍👍👍
Presumably you expect whatever it does to your premium to be cheaper than buying a new frame, otherwise you’d just be buying a new frame, so you’re still better off than not claiming, right?
Besides, you have a 14 day cooling off period on your new policy, so if they jack it up too much go and find a new one. In that respect, you’ve done it at just the right time 🙂

Neither of those would be as cost effective as not having a broken frame though.
Fair play to Aviva - return phone call to confirm its covered within 2 hours of emailing them, waiting to see what their "cycle experts" have to say tomorrow.
good work.
I got side swiped yonks ago, thought I was OK, turns out down tube had kinked, paint damaged, 6 months later riding down some steps felt a funny clunk - yup, down tube was about to separate...
Glad you found it before it went properly!
I'd had a couple of gentle pootles on the gravel bike to test out dodgy legs, really glad I hadn't tried it with the road bike in the conditions it's in.
Insurance companies can be OK, as well.
Also yonks ago, I had to claim for car door damage. It was parked by a sign that asked folk not to park, when I got back the door had been kicked in. Bootprints and everything. Police notified.
We had gone for a hill walk around 1000, returned around 1600. What I hadn't realised - what are the chances - that the policy changed on that date from CU to another company, *and* that CU ran their policies noon til noon, and the other company were midnight to midnight. Basically there was a 12 hour *gap* in cover (not spotted), and that no-one could say on who's watch the damage had occurred! completely bizarre. In the end they settled 50:50.
I don't think anyone was charged over the damage, either, it was Hogmanay in Fort William and I suspect they had other things to deal with..
