About 24lbs IIRC.

Edit: with cheapy pedals etc, and that could've been a Comp!

Even a 17" alu Comp HT is 24lbs - weighed by WMB a while back and I still have the copy. I'd whop at least a pound off that for the better specced Carbon Expert.

23.4 lb i think minw weighed in at with pedals ( 520's).

New set of wheels and tyres had it down to just above 22lb

cheers, thought it would be lighter, that's a bit too heavy!

Must've been a comp, I remember thinking 'christ that's weighty' at the time. Evans come to 22lbs 9oz though, add some M520s and that's 23.5lbs.

Would anyone put M520s on a Stumpy Expert Carbon though?! I wouldn't!

Alu Comp version is less than a pound heavier (12oz) - not a lot really.

Been mocked many times for saying my Comp weighs around 22-23lbs. Seeing as it started off under 24 and I've saved a lot of weight on the wheels/hubs/tyres, a fair bit on the drivetrain, a lot on the saddle/seatpost, a fair bit on the brakes and little bits on almost every other component, I think I'm not actually talking bull at all 😉

A hell of a lot of people do, M540s only save 60g or so.

Why not?? Cheap, reliable & aren't massively heavy for such a budget choice.

I've got one set that I've had for 7 yrs or so, have never had anything done to them & they work fine. The set I've stuck on the new bike were originally bought as I wanted some new cleats and at £5 more than the cost of the cleats on their own it seemed a no brainer....

Yep I'd stick them on anything but the most weight weenie of bikes, just can't beat them for value.

I HAVE them on my stumpy carbon expert.

TBH, the weight of the bike is not too bad, put on a descent wheelset ( i run ztr hubs, alpine rims and cx ray spokes), a lightweight tyre, change the cassette and you'll have a nice lightweight race bike. It works for me.

Sure over time, stick on a carbon bar, seatpost and stem and a carbon chainset, possibly run 2x10 to lighten things even more and you'll have a 20lb beast, but when your competing then 1 - 2 lbs doesn't make that much of a difference. Rider ability and bike set up/tyre choice is more important

There are certainly some porky components on most of the Stumpies:

put on a descent wheelset ( i run ztr hubs, alpine rims and cx ray spokes), a lightweight tyre, change the cassette

Those are the obvious ones! They're decent bikes for sure, irrespective of the weight.

I have M520s, M540s and XT SPDs on different bikes. The XTs on the Stumpy look the nicest 😉

Replaced every component on mine for lighter stuff apart from the forks and stem. Definitely a fair bit lighter and works better too.

The OEM spec was okayish on mine - rather shocked at how poor it is on the current 2010 version!

also depends on the size...

The frames aren't superlight anyway. My 18" 08 s-works carbon ht weighed in at 1250g, although current ones may be a bit lighter.

Yeah they made them more swoopy for 2009, not sure about weight, should be slightly lighter, but you now use adapter cups in the BB which pushes the weight up again.

Size doesn't make very much difference at all, you can get just as much deviation in any one size IME.

The Shimano pedal hierarchy is a fantastic example of diminishing returns, the weights of the pedals are:

M520: 415g
M540: 352g
M770: 352g
M970: 325g

M770s are basically M540s with a different finish. XTRs cost double what M540s do for a 27g saving. M520s make the most sense in a lot of cases! I still use M970s in winter though.

Somewhere (can't remember where) it says that the XTs use better bearing and seals than the M540s. I basically got them because they are black... 😳

An S Works or Marathon Stumpy HT would be my dream bike if going the carbon route. If the Ti route, either IF or Lynskey.

Think that's for the alu version - a lot of money really. Carbon version is £2k I think?
