[Closed] Weekend in the lakes road cycling. Where to stay?

Planning a weekend riding in the lakes at the end of July. Plan is to go down on Friday night, do a couple of 60 mile loops sat and Sunday, then drive back Sunday night.

Looking to camp, and will have the car so can drive to a starting point. Idea is that we take in a couple of the more famous climbs, definitely want to do hardknott from the west on one day, and ideally not with 60 odd miles in the legs.

Any good suggestions for routes and a place to stay would be appreciated

Ta

Coniston/Torver gets you over the back via two 'medium' climbs (Hummer Lane/Ulpha) to the foot of Hardknott. Basic campsite at Hoathwaite (Torver) and Coniston Hall, which has a few more facilities.

If you wanted to - or up the minor road that goes across from just south of Torver, across to Broughton Mills then Dunnerdale Hall, then across from Ulpha to Eskdale Green. Both are steep in places, but if you're planning HardKnott and Wrynose, nothing too hard.

Think you can camp at Eskdale YHA - Get a bit of a Hardknott / Wrynose session on the go.

If you fancied a sort of demi-Fred route you could head out HK, Wrynose, Blea Tarn then work your way over to Grasmere via Red Tarn. Some A-road nonsense up to Keswick (but take the quiet road round Thirlmere, v nice), then Borrowdale and up n over Honister. Swerve Newlands for another day (shame, as it's a beautiful climb), and just continue past Crummock water - you'll then pick up the Western leg of the Fred route back to Eskdale over Cold Fell.

I've done that before and it wasn't massive in distance IIRC, 60-70 miles, but some hard climbing so definitely felt like a big effort.

If you take Garry_Lagers' route bear in mind the quiet back road round Thirlmere is currently closed to all traffic, and has been for 15 months.
Fisherground Campsite in Eskdale is a nice one.
