Anyone ridden up there recently? I grew up nearby and it was always OK for an hour or so but nothing that great. Haven't been there in years.
Given the SXC rounds that have been there in the last couple of years and the Commonwealth games plan I was wondering if its more interesting these days? I'm out that way this weekend and will have a bike and couple of hours to spare. Is it worth a ride even though I'm not into dogging, abusing cheap alcohol or setting stolen cars on fire?
Cheers!
If you are there anyway, it might be okay for a spin, but I wouldn't go out of my way personally. I rode that SXC race you refer to, and it was okay, but nothing too exciting. I think there was a plan to upgrade some sections before the Commonwealth games, but I've not heard if that has happened yet.
Clasgow Council have done work up there for the coming games but you have to remember that they have to be careful of possible litigation in the event that somebody takes a header. If it's a couple of hours and your going that way anyway then whats to loose ๐
This is the SXC course for ideas. It started on a big grassy section just beside "2", and headed up into the woods on the left for a fast slightly rooty section. It goes down some steps by 3, and then turns left along a singletrack path for a bit. There is a steep muddy descent once you get past "1" (after the switchback), or a chicken run path. The section between "1" and "2" got a bit churned up in the race, so I think they were planning on working on that area a bit.
i was last up in the summer, no idea how much they are going to develop it further or when, but they have cut a grass track around that's fairly easy to follow, if a bit of a pain in places, alot of it is still grass, which is crap to cycle on at times.. don't know if they developed it any further.. loads of tracks up there though, you can keep yourself entertained for a few hours.
