Hi Guys,
I want a small unobtrusive unit for HR / Cadence / Speed and distance, just for training no need for maps etc.
Anyone used the Edge 25 and have experience of it? Or is there something better / cheaper out there that does all this?
Thanks in advance,
Zzz
see if Aldi still have the 25 for £80 left from Sunday?
Top man, didn't realise that,

I have had an edge 25 since Xmas. It replaced a touring as I found I wasn't using the maps that much.
It's been great so far and does everything you listed with no issues.
As for anything cheaper - nor that I've seen.
No complaints with mine, nice and small, use it with a k edge mount (stem top cap), plays nicely with Garmin connect/strava on my iPhone. Battery life is good for its size and that's about it! I don't need anything above and beyond distance, speed and a strava iPhone sync so it's perfect for me.
I was interested in the lezyne units when they were first announced but they took forever to release them, Garmin beat them to it and I'm glad I went Garmin as lezyne are new to the gps game so have no track record.
Right,
Off to Aldi, only available in store.

My local Aldi (Exeter) had them in yesterday but at £89, i questionned it and they said it should have been £79 as per the website. Then they did something odd when checking the price at the till which meant i only paid £1.50 for it! 😀 Best GPS device ever for £1.50!
I've got a 25 and rate it as a simple navigation device to follow breadcrumb style routes.
However, just a word of caution, the syncing using Garmin Express is awful.
You can directly drop FIT files into the New Files folder on the device (despite what some user guides say) but the dist-to-end function doesn't work when you're following a course.
I've also had issues with course failures when syncing to the device directly from an iPhone 6S, even if the course was created within Garmin Connect. Very frustrating.
I was all set on getting one until i saw it only used smart recording intervals. Perfect roadie gps tho.
I've got one and it;s great for tracking, average speed etc but I've since started using it for on the turbo and it is not as good for this- you can't see your heart rate and cadence at the same time or set your own heart rate zones (as far as I can tell).
I don't think it's really fully designed for that purpose though so as a simple tracking device with standard stats it works great.
smart recording intervals
What does this mean?
I have one and use it for both road and mtb and it has been faultless. I dont use every feature it has just the bog standard data for training. Most issues people have seem to stem from trying to sync to 3rd party apps so if thats not your thing then it will be fine.
i echo stevede. had it since christmas but lost in in a crash on Seldom Seen the other week, was also using the k-edge top cap mount but it snapped the plastic insert. didnt realise until back at the van. just replaced it with one from aldi but not sure ill crack on with the top cap mount, seems pretty vulnerable up there...
Thanks again guys,
I went to Aldi and got one, it was shown as £89.99 but appeared as £79.99 at the till. Unfortunately not £1.50.
As I said I just need a small unobtrusive unit for HR / Cadence / Speed and distance, it is mainly for Velodrome use and needs to be small and record the above to monitor efforts after training.
It will mount under the saddle on a custom mount.
Mine arrived in the post today from aldi... £80 online and I didn't even have to rub shoulders with the unwashed.
Looks good, compact and minimal. Been playing with it this evening, I like being able to sync/upload it via my phone. I shall see how well it works tomorrow...
yeah its so small and light you can stick it in your pocket if the riding gets a bit lairy

er, exactly this post ^ Looks absolutely tiny beside my 810, which was my main point in getting it. 810 will be reserved for road and nav duties, with the 25 for all normal MTB stuff where there's a good chance of me ruining the bigger one. Obviously doesn't have all the same features, but seems well thought out and the screen is good for it's size
Not much to add to the comments above. Had mine a few months now and happy with it apart from some trouble connecting it to my Motorola phone via bluetooth.
Used it for a couple of commutes now, impressed so far, useful data fields when riding, not paired any sensors yet though.
Syncs nicely via connect mobile on my phone, forwards onto Strava happily so no need to fire up a PC.
I was in aldi earlier and spotted they still have a couple in along with lots of workstands, certain items clearly haven't shifted as expected this time round...
Does the breadcrumb nav work ok off road ?
struggling to find the optimum mount position for mine, stem top cap is vulnerable when i crash, ive snapped of two now! i moved it to the top tube using the provided rubber band mount but i keep knocking the buttons with my knees, bastard reset it itself 15 miles into a ride the other the week!
i could mount it under my saddle, on the seat tube maybe but obviously i wouldnt be able to read it! might as well keep it in my pocket, but then it will definitely end up going through the washing machine... 😕
On the bars or using a Barfly (3.0 iirc) wins for me. Always a chance of hitting it in a crash, got to be pretty unlucky though and definitely more protected than on the top cap
