Recommend me a good place to take my brother for a long weekend gravel biking in wales. Looking to do 1 or 2 rides per day, staying somewhere decent with good places to eat nearby...
Investigating now... That's a strong recommendation!
Machynlleth is good South on Mach 3 Anglers retreat etc
north to the dyfi forest , route 8 ffordd Ddu , trans eryri etc
Rhayader's hard to beat -
Claerwen reservoir track then follow TCW past Teifi pools and then the Cwmystwyth valley east back to Rhayader. One of my favourite rides in Wales.
Another great day out from there is to head towards Abergwesyn, a beautiful valley. Then ride forest tracks N towards 'Bomb Hole' and Strata Florida. Heat maps will find the tracks. Return to Rhayader along the Claerwen res track going the opposite way to the other ride.
2 decent sized rides but imo more rewarding than any I can think of that fit into a half day. Although.. if you were to ride from Rhayader into the Cwmystwyth valley then pick up the TCW north up 'Mohawk Road' and into the forest there you could loop back to Rhayader after the forest section, a great half day ride.
