Hey guys.
Holy moly this thing weighs a tonne.!
Anyway... I have my Wahoo Kickr ready to go but I have found the chain noise a bit too loud.
On both my MTB and CX. (std quick release and thru) it just seems a bit noisy.
I'm reluctant to tweak the barrel adjuster as I want the advantage of removing the bike and heading outside as easy as possible without having to adjust anything.
It seems better the lower the gear but not perfic.
Is it a case of shimming the cassette back and forth to get the correct spacing? Is this normal to do for direct drive trainers?
Thanks all.!
Might just be slightly worn chain with new cassette, let it settle down. If you shim the cassette then you'll have to adjust the mech.
I had something similar with mine when I first got it and the problem was solved by fitting a new chain, the old one just didn't get on with the new cassette.
+1 for changing the chain. But that won't help if it's down to indexing. It's unlikely to be way out if it's not jumping/missing shifts and the adjustment is repeatable, so work out which way you need to turn the adjuster, count the quarter turns, then it's a question of simply turning the adjuster that amount when you stick it on the turbo and the other way when you take it off.
I used to do that with my old Tacx, it takes about five seconds each time. And yes, it would be easier not to, but it's not a big deal ime.
I've just fully decreased the chain on the bike hoping it would help, not much.
The chain has about 1000miles and works fine with a new cassette attached to another wheel. So I deffo think it's an indexing issue
I'll try the barrel adjuster and this ahould sort it. but was really hoping not to tinker with my cable tension as I want the easy swap between turbo and wheel to be as easy and quick as possible..
I'm sure the tension will fix it. I'll report back later.
Cheers guys for the input. 👍
Have you tried Wahoo support? They were very quick to get back to me when I felt mine was a little noisy also when fairly new and they advised me how to tweak the Kickr belt tension to fix it. May not be that but worth a try if other things not working.
I run mine with a used 10 speed cassette. It's fine. And all you need are a set of decent barrel adjusters. External gear cables with jagwire adjusters ftw!
New chain or old cassette will cure it.
I have Kickr mk1 running 10speed. It’s well reported (Kickr FB support) that the supplied cassette is a pretty basic one - probably much lower spec than your usual one. But - you may also need to adjust the barrel adjusters to get the indexing spot on. With practice you should be able to do this in moments when you swap between turbo & bike.
Mine's an Ultegra 😉 . Not sure about the 11 speed that came with my mk2. Was planning on putting it on some training wheels for other bikes. Having a dedicated KICKR bike makes life very easy. Half of my bikes are 10 speed and the rest 11. But I won't be swapping cassettes now. 11-25 with compact chainset and resistance set to 100% for hills.
Delighted with it.
Swapping the cassette to a different one on the Kickr solved it.
Nice and smooth now. 😀😀
Although, it does look odd with a 11-42 on it..
Cheers for the suggestions..!
