Voodoo Wazzoo - goi...

[Closed] Voodoo Wazzoo - going 1 x 10 BCD and what else do I need to know?

I've ordered one of these for Mrs J - should arrive early this week. For my own sanity, I'm converting it to 1 x 10 before she rides it. I think I've got the shifter, mech and chain sorted, but I don't know what the BCD is for the crank and whether I can use the existing ones with a narrow wide chain ring.

Can anyone advise?

TIA

104, did mine a couple of weeks ago and while you're at it get rid of the tyres. The standard ones really are shite.

As written earlier, the OEM Mission Command tyres are dire! Jumbo Jim snakeskin are fast and bomb proof, no idea if you could put a 4.8 up front.

You can save ~600g by swapping to sv13f inner tubes.

You might want to either fit riser bars, or a high angle stem. Sadly Knuckleball and Corto are not £60 total any more.

I've not had any issue with the tyres as yet but as NoBody mentioned above I'd seriously consider some riser bars, definitely my next purchaee. You can also cut a chunk off the seat post.

Good all rounders at reasonable weight, they roll quite well even though they look like they shouldn't

Cheers Rocket. Might get one for the rear but keep the Mission Command on the front for now.

NoBody, out of curiosity which size Corto & knuckle bar did you go for?

The floaters have transformed my Wazoo. The self steer the Mission Command tyres had was hideous. I can now run a lot lower pressure for ruff stuff without the bike trying to kill me.

Daheed, ended up with 35mm Corto and 747mm chewy Knuckleball (25mm rise).

I swapped out the zero rise bars and a 35 degree 80mm stem, quite a change, but it feels fine.

Total thread hyjack, sorry.

NoBody, sounds daft I know but what is the difference between the chewy & hard bars? How much more flex is there, sounds weird to have a flexible bar.

I'm so used to my Stumpjumper that the angle of ride on the Wazoo just feels weird. Got a sore back after an 11 mile soon yesterday & I reckon its due to my posture on the bike. I'm much more upright on the Stumpie.

Thanks all - need to source some riser bars with a bit of sweep now.

Daheed, my weak back gave me grief after my first default ride, that's when I changed to my extreme high angle On One stem which raised the bar ~5cm and made such a difference with the default zero rise bar.

The Knuckleball is my first ever carbon bar, the chewy version is supposed to dampen road buzz more than the hard, but I swear my hands are not bouncing up and down as I ride from flex! The chewy version is supposed to be better for rigid fork setups, feels great so far, plus I lost ~250g during the swap...

If only I could lose weight as easy as my Wazoo has, now down to ~10Kg with a few changes, including FatNotFat 29er wheels with 35c Randonneur Pro tyres!!!

Cheers guys. So new tyres, bars, stem & grips. Best part of £200 if I chuck in a carbon seat post 😐 I'll be doing that in stages then.

Anyone have any experience of Chinese carbon forks?

Right colour for the Wazoo

Those forks are tapered, I've yet to look at whether the Wazoo has the right size head tube (44mm?) to use those lower headset cups that will then fit a taper steerer to a non-taper frame.

But the green would match! 😆

Need a new hub for the wheel though. The bolt through axle is obviously not going to be compatible.

NoBody, could you explain your last post in English for the likes of myself who knows next to nothing about his bike 😳

The Wazoo by default comes with an "oldskool" straight steerer fork, 1 1/8th of an inch from top to bottom.

The "newskool" fork steerer design, like on the Rockshox Bluto for fatbikes, is tapered (1 1/8th inches for most of its length, but then widens out to 1 1/2 inches at its base).

For straight steerer headtubes that are 44mm in diameter, it is possible to replace the lower headset cup with an external headset adaptor, which would then allow you to fit a tapered fork like a Bluto to the Wazoo.

So if the Wazoo headtube is 44mm, it would give us access to a more fork upgrades via this adaptor, rather than being limited to the On One Fatty Carbon; the Exotic; another one that escapes my tired brain right now.

The Hope adaptor is one of http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-pick-n-mix-headsets-bottom-cup/rp-prod70727 (I think it is type H)

The above is my limited understanding of this, I could be wrong, I'm getting old and get easily confused. 😉

P.S. You were right about needing a different 150mm hub front wheel for that green fork.

Interesting link above, that is some upgrade path, more than price of default bike!

It is, but at least it shows that tapered is possible!
